“Where do you get your ideas?” I get asked that question a lot. Reading, reflecting, own experiences, but quite often from my interactions with my clients during my one-hour SBT sessions (SBT = Strategic Business Therapy).
In a recent session with a client, I was demonstrating the importance of working hard on differentiating a business idea and the impact this differentiation can have on pricing. That discussion reminded me of , a company that sources and supports local artisanal farmers in many places around the world. So I showed him their app on my phone and we chose a simple product as an example, watermelon.
Natoora tells the story of Oscar the farmer and his unique process (read his process in the photos). Because of everything Oscar does, the way the story is told and how the product tastes at the end, they sell it for an average that’s just below KD30 per piece! Regular farmers who don’t go that far to produce an outstanding watermelon end up with a normal watermelon that doesn’t exceed KD5 for the largest size. BIG difference.
The point? Differentiating your product or service and the way you operate pays off; and if it can work for watermelons, it can definitely work for you. If you need help achieving that for your business, reach out.
