Corrosion Surveys
Anytime you have metal in contact with seawater or fresh water you will have corrosion. By installing and MAINTAINING sacrificial anodes on your vessel, boat lift, or sea wall. The “sacrificial anodes” are consumed in the corrosion process instead of expensive underwater metals on your vessel.

Over time the sacrificial anodes are consumed and need to be replaced (once wasted by 50%).

Unprotected metals can corrode very quickly, causing leaks (through-hull fittings), reduction in performance (propellors) and even breakdowns (propellor shafts, lower units, sail drives etc). All of these problems can result in vessel downtime and expensive repairs.

Marine Surveyors Cayman has the capabilities and experience to conduct corrosion surveys to determine if your boat or other asset has sufficient “cathodic protection” with functioning “sacrificial anodes”.
Marine Surveyors Cayman also conduct tests for stray current, which can be very aggressive and very dangerous.

Condition & Valuation (Insurance) Survey
The Condition & Valuation Survey is similar to the above Pre-Purchase survey without the need for sea trials and in many cases the survey is completed entirely out-of water (for most center console boats with outboard application).

Marine Surveyors is recognized and approved by most insurance companies throughout North America and the Caribbean.🚤

Pre-Purchase Survey
Whether Motor or Sailing Yachts or smaller watercraft, Marine Surveyors Cayman has the knowledge and experience to help you with your Pre-Purchase Marine Survey.

The survey would include an out-of water survey to inspect the hull bottom and running gear. An in-water inspection to test all the on-board equipment, electrical and accessories along with inspecting the internal stringers and bulkheads where access allows. Note, no removal or dismantling of any parts is allowed during a survey. No tools will be used in the removal any panels, compartments or floor boards. All inspections are non-invasive. Tanks are inspected where visible but not internally and no pressure tests or contamination tests are performed. The engines and genset would be inspected externally only. It is recommended to have a qualified mechanic inspect the engines with the appropriate diagnostic software. Finally, it is recommend to conduct a sea trial of the vessel. Safety gear is inspected in accordance with the Cayman Islands Port Authority. A full survey report including A “Certificate of Valuation” which is required for Financial or Insurance purposes would be completed and emailed in PDF format within two to three working days.

Pre-Survey Tips to Save You Money.

Once a survey is complete, findings and recommendations are listed in the survey report. These recommendations will be categorised:

Recommendations: The recommendations made are for the purpose of suggested repairs and categorized as A, B & C. Further details are available upon request.
Recommendation A – safety and or structural defects for immediate repair or replacement
Recommendation B – recommendations for further investigation or monitoring
Recommendation C – suggested repairs and maintenance at owner’s convenience

Recommendations A - will require immediate repair which will be noted by your insurance provider. Once the repairs are complete the surveyor will need to make a second visit to the vessel to inspect these repairs and write an insurance compliance letter, This visit and compliance letter can add additional costs.

Hint: Complete a systems check prior to a survey to reduce the risk of a second visit by making sure simple safety items are functional and up to date including: Bilge pumps, Nav Lights, Horn and Safety Gear.
