When organising kid’s art supplies it’s best to:
1️⃣: group like items with like items;
2️⃣: display materials in a way that can be easily seen and
3️⃣: separate by C*O*L*O*U R 🌈
If you have more space you can put crayons, markers etc in individual containers by colour, but even if you have limited space like we did here you can combine warm (red, yellow, orange), cool (blue, green, purple) and neutrals (black,white, brown) together to make it easy for the child to find the colour they are looking for and clean up will be a breeze!
Having an art cart with items grouped together will also help save on the redundant purchase of supplies because you can inventory how many of each item you have at a glance.
Most frequently used (and tallest/longest) items go at the top, with less frequently used items or things that are thinner, shorter or flatter can be stored below.
If you can, include the child in on the organisation so they feel they had a say in how their items are arranged and their familiarity with the system will hopefully make them more likely to keep it tidy if they experience how much work it is to declutter and organise it in the first place.
Happy organising and remember broken crayons still colour!
