Start-ups come in many forms, but they *all* require considerable nurturing, investment of energy and resources – and a great deal of patience – as they begin their existence.

“We made it this far!” 🥳

Human parents and business founders celebrating their start-ups' milestones may well breathe a mutual “sigh of relief”. Yet we view this is as a temporary pause for reflection; we must strive, always, to achieve our full potential.

We are truly grateful to all who have sought Reside’s guidance and services during our first year of operations. We humbly acknowledge all of those who are making this journey possible: our first class service providers, the numerous Government agencies that we work with on a daily basis, and our dedicated staff members.

Happy First Birthday to Reside! (Now… who wants cake?)

Along with co-panelists James O’Brien and Daniel Altneu, our panel was but one of the many thought-provoking discussions convened by Emma Santiago, LLB, TEP, FCCA and Anthony Partridge - inevitably leading to many more conversations and new collaborations. 💡
✨...It may often go unmentioned, but the success of an event of this calibre also lies with impeccable attention to detail, and seamless ex*****on of logistics. Both were handled with aplomb by the wonderful staff at the conference venue, the Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, an IHG Hotel - a profound thank you is due! 👏

A sincere thank you to the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce for hosting its 2025 Economic Forum last Friday - and inviting our Founder Nicolas Joseph to share the stage with so many eminent thinkers.... ❛❛ If the Caymanian people are left behind, our march forward risks trampling our future. The warm welcome of the Caymanian people is ultimately the foundation on which our economy stands. There should be no hesitation in answering: "Who are we developing for?" ❜❜

On Friday, we had the pleasure of presenting to numerous experienced and aspiring HR professionals through the Cayman Islands Society for Human Resources Professionals (CISHRP). The session was an updated lecture to that last provided to the organisation in February of this year. We hope that those attending, which included a wide mix of people from across a wide range of industries in the private sector and a number of public sector representatives, found the session worthwhile.

We navigated through critical discussions on the Right to Be Caymanian, Permanent Residence, Work Permits and the foundational principles of our legislation – including most importantly the protection of Caymanians and of these Islands. It was a day full of engaging insights and reflections on the intentions and goals of our regulators and included frank and open discussion of where things may have been going awry.

Our goal? To empower attendees with the knowledge and skills to smoothly navigate Cayman Islands Immigration rules, and to understand the challenges which they, their employers, and the wider community may face. At Reside, we are here to help you maximise success in your applications, all while honouring the law and the interests of our Islands and community.

"The latest data is in. As of 30 September, there are presently 37,256 expatriates in the Cayman Islands with valid/current work permits (including some 1,458 government contracted workers). These numbers do not include thousands of Permanent Residents."

Intrigued by the numbers? We have just released our latest analysis of Cayman's expatriate workforce. From work permit holders to permanent residents, our new blog post breaks down the demographics shaping our islands.

Good Things Come

We have been open for 8 months now, and in a position to see, up close and first hand, the fruits of our labour. Applications for Permanent Residence, Naturalisations, and The Right to be Caymanian, prepared and filed by us in the earliest days of our operations, are now being determined.

This is not a testament to us, but to the clients whose efforts and qualities have met and exceeded the criteria set out for them in the applicable legislation. The timeliness of the determinations is also a testament to the civil servants and board members whose too often thankless efforts allow for the determinations to have been made.

We are heartened that our work (and theirs) has been worthwhile, not by the positive determination of our application, but most importantly, the response of our clients to news of the grant of their permissions. There have been tears of humility and of joy. A pride in being able to call themselves a part of us. An appreciation of the privilege and opportunity bestowed on them. An excitement for the future. A renewed commitment to Cayman.

It is not taken lightly and should bolster the decision makers. It is the best indication that their decision has been the right one.

We know that not every application will be successful. There is little point in a system that automatically confers approvals on everyone that wants it – but it is good to know the prospect is there for those that most deserve it.

Our founder, Nick Joseph, met with workers of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre last week. The CICC provides critical support and shelter for victims of domestic and sexual abuse, and has fulfilled that role for more than 20 years.

Although Cayman’s immigration laws were designed as a shield to protect the people of these Islands, they can be misused against those who do not understand their full range of rights and options. Too often the victims of domestic abuse fear removal from the Islands in consequence of reporting an abuser (of any nationality) where the victim’s permissions to reside in Cayman are based on their marriage to that person. This can create circumstances whereby threats and fear of consequences silence victims, keep people in unsafe environments, and reduce the likelihood of consequences for abusers.

Nick described many of the options available for survivors of abuse to seek and obtain their own immigration permissions to allow them to be in the Islands independent of another person.

It was a pleasure to meet with Cayman Islands Crisis Centre. We encourage and support the work they do and any organisation which works to keep our people and our community safe.

Pride of Place

Although not for everyone, I am emphatic in my belief that the Cayman Islands are the best place in the world to found a family and a life. Our potential is immeasurable. Our people gracious and kind. Our abhorrence for division is amongst our key attributes. Our location in the geographic centre of the Americas, our basis on English Common Law, our modern infrastructure and communications – all help make us who and what we are.

Our pristine marine environment, remarkable beaches and tropical climate, make it all the better. We are protected by more than the Crown (represented in the corner of our own flag) but by an enormous moat. We are at the centre of much – and yet as isolated as we wish. We choose who is to come and live here and on what basis.

Navigating this path to paradise can be complicated. Not everyone who wishes to come here or stay here, can do so. The Government has set the parameters that apply to all. Reside has a simple role. To show the way. To help those who qualify cross the thresholds through the paths available to them. To have the potential to become a part of us.

Reside has established a brand that seeks to represent not only those of you who wish to come and stay, but also these Islands and their people. We aspire to help you and our Islands– and to do so in way that befits both.

To discover your path to paradise, get in touch today.
