If June's rain has sent a line of ants marching across your kitchen counter, you're not imagining it. When the ground floods, ant colonies shift their foraging, and sometimes the whole nest - to higher, drier ground. Often that's the warm, crumb-friendly inside of your home.
3 WAYS TO KEEP ANTS OUTSIDE
Wipe up spills and crumbs the same day, and keep sugar, honey and pet food in sealed containers β ants follow scent trails straight to a reliable food source.
Seal their entry points: the gaps around pipes, window frames and door thresholds are where the trail begins. A bead of sealant breaks the highway.
Move bins, mulch and potted plants a little away from exterior walls β these are the staging grounds ants use before they head inside.
Spraying the ants you can see rarely solves it β the colony is elsewhere, and a wiped trail is rebuilt within hours. If ants keep coming back, our treatment targets the nest, not just the line on the counter.
