As our our beloved intern, Aleya Solomon departs our team, we gifted, played games and asked her a few questions 🥳
1. What were your biggest takeaways from your internship?
• How Government Works: I learned how a government office runs daily and how different departments work together to help the community.
• The Importance of Rules: I realized how crucial it is to follow official guidelines and procedures to keep information safe and accurate.
• Teamwork: I saw how much a team relies on clear communication to get big projects done smoothly.
2. What skills did you develop?
• Organization: Sorting through heavy workloads, managing files, and keeping track of important deadlines.
• Communication: Learning how to write professional emails, answer questions clearly, and speak confidently with colleagues.
• Problem-Solving: Finding missing information in paperwork and figuring out how to fix mistakes.
• Time Management: Balancing multiple small tasks throughout the day without falling behind.
3. What project or experience did you enjoy the most?
• Reviewing and Organizing Files: I really enjoyed the process of checking over incoming files and application documents.
• Why I Liked It: It felt good to take a messy pile of paperwork, organize it properly, and make sure it was ready for the rest of the team to use.
4. Were there any challenges you encountered?
• The Learning Curve: It was hard at first to learn all the different government forms and procedures.
• Incomplete Information: Sometimes people submitted paperwork with missing details, which slowed things down.
• How I Fixed It: I wasn’t afraid to ask my supervisor questions when I got stuck, and I created a small checklist for myself to stay on track.
5. Did the internship meet your expectations?
• Yes, it did: I thought I would just be doing basic desk work, but the team actually let me get involved in real daily operations.
• Confidence Builder: It gave me a great look at what a real office job is like and made me feel much more confident about working in a professional setting.
6. What improvements would you suggest for future internship programmes?
• A Quick Training Guide: It would be helpful to have a simple, written guide on the first week to explain how to use the specific office computer systems.
• Department Swaps: Giving interns a chance to spend just one or two days shadowing a completely different team to see what other offices do.
7. Would you recommend this internship to other students?
• Yes, definitely: It is a wonderful place to start if you have never worked in a professional office before.
• Supportive Environment: Everyone in the department was incredibly welcoming, patient, and always willing to help me learn.
8. What are your next academic or career goals?
• School Goals: I want to take what I learned about organization and time management and apply it to my upcoming classes and school projects.
• Career Goals: I hope to graduate soon and find a full-time office or administrative role where I can continue helping people and working with a great team.
