"Knowledge travels best from people to people, and from community to community."
That was how the Provincial Agriculture and Environment Office opened our training in Houaphan on 10 August, and it turned out to be the most accurate description of the three days that followed. 🇱🇦
Houaphan was our largest session of the project. 41 participants, 5 implementation units, and partners from WFP, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MOAE) and SNV in the room together. Most of the participants had never made a video before. Not a storyboard, not an interview, not a single edit.
Three days later they were writing scripts, filming each other, recording audio, and cutting their own videos in CapCut. 22 of the 41 participants were women, and by the close of training 70% said they felt confident carrying the work forward on their own. 🤝
What stayed with our team was this: the topics were never the problem. Nutrition, hygiene, farming, saving money, preparing for disasters. These are the things people in Houaphan already live with and already know. What they needed was a way to tell them, and the equipment to do it. Each unit went home with a full production kit, phones, microphones, tripods, projectors and screens.
Five teams in Houaphan are now filming in their own villages, in their own language, about their own lives. That is the whole point. ✨
