Diverting Waste by Encouraging Reuse and Recycling - DAWERR

DAWERR is a five-year USAID-funded Activity that aims to establish sustainable solid waste recovery DAWERR Objectives:

1.

DAWERR aligns with USAID/Lebanon’s objective to introduce financially sustainable solutions that increase the reuse, recycling and monetization of solid waste, which would reduce the amount of solid waste that goes to landfills. Build the capacity and reinforce commitment of municipalities to provide improved solid waste management services either directly or indirectly;
2. Empower communities to

sort at source and participate actively in various stages of different recycling value chains; and
3. Develop successful business models that create green economic opportunities and generate net incomes for the local communities along the recycling value chains. DAWERR is implemented by the US-based ECODIT LLC in partnership with Lebanese organizations: Berytech, Compost Baladi, ECODIT Liban and ELARD.

في 10 كانون الثاني 2025، عقد مشروع DAWERR اجتماعاً في بلدة دير الحرف لتقديم تحديثات حول محطة التسبيخ التي ستخدم أهالي راس المتن، دير الحرف وقرطاضة، تقدم جمع النفايات، والأنشطة المستقبلية المتعلقة بـتغيير السلوك الإجتماعي حول الفرز الصحيح للنفايات من المصدر. ناقش الحضور ممارسات الفرز، عمليات المحطة، والحاجة إلى فرض رسوم لضمان استدامة المشروع. الحماس كبير لانطلاق المشروع!

*From Displacement to Empowerment: Fatima’s Contribution to a Better Environment in Baskinta*

Forced to relocate to Baskinta due to the war in the south, Fatima from Sarafand embraced her new environment by engaging in meaningful community initiatives. Her journey took a positive turn when she joined DAWERR’s training on effective communication and sorting at source and working alongside youth from Baskinta.
As part of the adaptation plan in Baskinta, Fatima actively participated in outreach and door-to-door activities, spreading awareness about the solid waste management solution and encouraging households in Baskinta to sort their waste.

‎‎تم اليوم جمع الدفعة الأولى من النفايات العضوية من المحلات التجارية والمطاعم في راس المتن كجزء من خطة إدارة النفايات الصلبة ضمن تجمع بلديات راس المتن، قرطاضة ودير الحرف. ستُعالَج هذه النفايات في محطة التسبيخ الممولة من الوكالة الأميركية للتنمية الدولية لتحويلها إلى سباخ عضوي.

Today, the first batch of organic waste was collected from local shops and restaurants in Ras al-Matn as part of the municipality’s Solid Waste Management plan within Ras al-Matn, Qortada and Deir al-Harf Cluster of municipalities. This waste will be treated at the USAID-funded composting facility, turning it into valuable compost for a greener and cleaner future.

في إطار دعمه المستمر لبلدية بسكنتا، نظّم مشروع DAWERR مؤخرًا دورة تدريبية تركزت على تدابير الصحة والسلامة لعمال مركز الفرز الثانوي في بسكنتا وجامعي النفايات.🧑‍🔧غطى التدريب بروتوكولات السلامة الأساسية، وأفضل الممارسات للتعامل مع المواد القابلة للتدوير، والطريقة الصحيحة لاستخدام المعدات لضمان صحة وسلامة العمال طوال عملية جمع النفايات. هذه المبادرة هي جزء أساسي من المرحلة الأولى بالتعاون مع البلدية لتنفيذ نظام فعال ومستدام لإدارة النفايات. ♻️

ضمن جهود USAID Lebanon المستمرة من خلال مشروع DAWERR لتحسين إدارة النفايات والحفاظ على بيئتنا، يُسعدنا إعلامكم بإطلاق حملة الفرز من المصدر في المنازل والمحلات في بسكنتا.
ابتداءً من ٧ كانون الاول ٢٠٢٤ سيتم تخصيص يوم السبت، بين الساعة ٨ صباحاً وال ٢ ظهراً، لجمع النفايات القابلة للتدوير باستخدام شاحنة خاصة، ليتم نقلها إلى مركز الفرز الثانوي في عين القبو التابع للبلدية Baskinta Municipality
