LOWER PRICES DON'T BUILD LOYALTY. BETTER VALUE DOES.
Price matters. But competing mainly on price can quickly become a race in which everyone sacrifices margin and very few create a meaningful competitive advantage.
For retailers, VALUE IS BROADER THAN PRICE.
It is the combination of the product, its quality, assortment, convenience, service, store experience and the confidence customers have that what they are buying is worth what they are paying.
Discounting may help trigger a transaction. But if price becomes the principal reason customers choose you, another retailer can always attempt to give them a lower one.
The stronger question for retailers is therefore not simply:
HOW CAN WE SELL THIS FOR LESS?
But:
How can we make customers perceive this as worth more?
That distinction can have a significant impact on pricing power, margin protection and the long-term strength of a retail proposition.
