In 2017, Sami Younis landed in Saudi Arabia with no contacts, no office, and a mandate to build from scratch.

Seven years later: 160+ staff. Two offices. A market presence that speaks for itself.

That is what 47 years of relationship-driven consultancy looks like in practice.

As Sami steps back from his role as the GM of the KSA operation at DG Jones & Partners, he shares the lessons behind the growth and why he's not really going anywhere.

"DG Jones & Partners is my family. That does not end because I have stepped back from a title."

Achieving net-zero carbon emissions has become a fundamental requirement for modern infrastructure, particularly for projects expected to operate for decades and influence national or regional development. Meeting global climate objectives, such as the 1.5°C goal, now requires structured, whole-life approaches to decarbonisation across planning, procurement, delivery, and long-term operations.

For large-scale developments, including high-speed rail, new cities, and major mixed-use programmes across regions such as the MENA, an enforceable net-zero construction roadmap is no longer optional. These projects inherently embed significant material use and long-term emissions; without early intervention, they risk carbon lock-in, regulatory challenges, and misalignment with international finance requirements.

DG Jones and Partners was honoured to take part in the 8th Scientific Engineering Symposium at Qassim University’s College of Engineering, an occasion that left an impression well worth sharing.

An industry is only ever as strong as the people who will one day carry it forward. For a firm that has practised for more than six decades, few responsibilities feel as meaningful as helping to prepare the engineers who will shape the built environment of tomorrow.

What does 40 years in construction claims teach you?

According to Michel Salem—retiring Board Director and Head of Contracts and Claims at DG Jones—the answer isn't just technical expertise. It's people.

"People will remember your actions and will forget your job title."

From Fiji to Beirut to Doha, Michel's career spans continents, disciplines, and some of the region's most complex projects. His story is one of resilience, relationships, and building something that lasts well beyond any single project.

We're honoured to share it: https://dgjonesworld.com/news/lessons-from-a-40-year-career-yielding-to-managing-construction-claims

Imagine a symphony in which every musician is accomplished, yet none has studied the score. The performance may proceed, but the nuance — the timing, the phrasing, the architecture of the piece — is lost. International commercial arbitration now confronts a similar question. In an era of increasingly intricate contracts, compressed programmes and multi-jurisdictional projects, is general competence still sufficient, or has specialisation become the cornerstone of credible construction dispute resolution?

That question framed the CIArb Cyprus Conference 2026, which brought together arbitrators, adjudicators, barristers, engineers, and quantum and delay experts from across Europe and the Middle East. DG Jones and Partners was honoured to support the event as a sponsor and to join a community of practitioners united by a shared conviction that the resolution of modern construction disputes demands not merely sound judgement, but deep technical fluency.

Construction Quality Assurance (QA) is a proactive and systematic framework designed to ensure every project consistently meets or exceeds defined standards and client expectations.

Unlike Quality Control (QC), which reacts to issues after they arise, QA prevents them — embedding quality into the process from the very start. It sets the rules, training, and systems that stop defects before they occur.

The construction industry is an industry shifting the way it works, one that is moving beyond traditional blueprints and manual labour. A future driven by data and digital intelligence.

This revolution, led by smart building technologies, is not just about creating intelligent buildings. It's about using technology to revolutionise the entire construction process, making the process more efficient, collaborative, and sustainable. It's an inspiring transformation that’s changing the very fabric of how we design, build, and operate our infrastructures.
