Scheduled power cuts of 2 hour and 20 minutes for Friday (30) was approved for Sri Lanka, Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said after declining the request of the state run Ceylon Electricity Board to extend the power cuts (CEB).

However, he has already warned the power cut will have to be extended if the country does not receive required coal which is used to generate a maximum 900 MW or over 30 percent of the total power demanded by the country.
