⚠️ Important Notice to the Gem & Jewelry Trade ⚠️
We have noticed that many people are misusing the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) logo on business cards, gemstone reports, and certificates.
❌ This is NOT allowed.
Even if someone has studied or graduated from Gemological Institute of America, it does NOT give permission to use the GIA logo for business purposes.
🎓 Once you graduate from Gemological Institute of America, you become a GIA Alumni Collective Member.
✔️ You can only use the official Alumni logo
✔️ And it must be used according to GIA guidelines and standards
🚫 Some local gem labs are using the GIA logo on their certificates to show they are “certified by GIA.”
This is false and strictly prohibited.
📌 Gemological Institute of America clearly states in its official website and documents:
• The GIA logo cannot be used without permission
• It cannot be used to promote personal or business services
• It cannot be used on gem reports or certificates unless issued by GIA
⚖️ This is misleading to customers and may lead to legal action.
🚨 If you see this kind of misuse in local gem reports:
👉 Please report immediately to Gemological Institute of America
👉 And also inform the GIA Alumni Association in Sri Lanka
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka has a GIA Alumni Association, and we are very concerned as a nation about this kind of wrong promotion and misleading practices in the gem trade.
🙏 We kindly request everyone in the industry:
• Use correct titles and qualifications
• Do not misuse logos
• Follow proper guidelines
Let’s keep the gem industry honest, professional, and trustworthy
