According to Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, "Caregivers are an important option for families in Canada and have played an instrumental role in the lives of many growing children, aging parents, and those who need additional specialized care."

The Canadian government announced a reduction in the work experience required for caregivers to qualify for permanent residency from 24 months to 12 months. This change starts April 30, 2023, and offers an excellent opportunity for immigrants working as developmental support workers to consider taking advantage of the benefits of this profession. As a result, caregivers and their families will be eligible to transition to permanent residence sooner, allowing them to settle down and start their lives in Canada.

Our College offers a comprehensive Developmental Service Worker (DSW) program that prepares students with the necessary knowledge and skills to support individuals with developmental disabilities. The program meets all the needs of today's job market. It includes a 560-hour internship, providing students with hands-on experience in the field and an opportunity to connect with potential employers.

DSWs play an essential role in the lives of many people who need specialized care. With the aging Canadian population, the demand for caregivers is increasing, and it's a great time to pursue a career in this growing field.
