💎 Synthetic Blue Sapphire Alert! 💎
A recent observation at the TGC lab has flagged a synthetic blue sapphire, marketed as a crystal. While it initially appeared to be a natural gemstone, a closer look revealed tell-tale signs of its lab-grown origin.

Here's what we found:

Gas Bubbles and Curved Lines: Our gemologists observed randomly spread gas bubbles and curved lines within the blue-colored areas. These are common indicators of a synthetic, melt-growth process.

Striation Pattern Discrepancy: The striation pattern on the stone did not align with its crystal faces, a classic indication that the gem had been modified from a larger, lab-grown crystal.

This serves as a crucial reminder: always trust a certified gemologist to authenticate your gemstones. 🧐 Don't be fooled by appearances!

අපිට ලැබුනු ව්‍යාජ මැණිකක්! 🚨
TGC රසායනාගාරයේ අපේ මැණික් විද්‍යාඥයන් ස්වභාවික ගෙවුඩ ස්ඵටිකයක් විදිහට අලෙවි කරන්න හදපු කෘත්‍රිම නිල් මැණිකක් නිරීක්ෂණය කළා. පිටතින් බලද්දි හරිම ලස්සනට පෙනුණත්, හොඳින් පරීක්ෂා කරලා බලද්දි තමයි මේක රසායනාගාරයක හැදුව එකක් කියලා තහවුරු වුණේ.
අපිට මේක හොයාගන්න පුළුවන් වුණේ මෙහෙමයි:
• පුංචි බුබුළුයි, අමුතු ඉරි ටිකකුයි: මැණික් ගල ඇතුළේ අපි පුංචි වායු බුබුළුයි, වක්‍ර රේඛායි දැක්කා. ස්වභාවික මැණික් වල මේවා නැහැ. මේවා කියන්නේ මේ ගල රසායනාගාරයක හැදුවා කියලා පෙන්නන හොඳම සාක්ෂි.
• ස්ඵටිකයේ හැඩේයි මතුපිට ඉරි ටිකයි ගැලපුණේ නැහැ: ගල මතුපිට තියෙන ඉරි, ගලේ හැඩයට ගැලපුණේ නැහැ. මේකෙන් පැහැදිලි වෙන්නේ මේ "ස්ඵටිකය" හැදුවේ කෘත්‍රිමව හදපු ලොකු ගලකින් කියලා.
මේක වැදගත් මතක් කිරීමක්: මැණික් මිලදී ගන්නකොට පළපුරුදු වෘත්තිකයෙක් ලවා පරීක්ෂා කරවාගන්න. පෙනුමට රැවටෙන්න එපා!

The Secret World Within a Spinel
We recently received a fascinating 1.94 ct spinel at the TGC lab, and its secrets were revealed under the microscope. This beautiful gem had a refractive index (RI) of 1.718, which is a key indicator of its identity.

The inclusions! This spinel was filled with tiny, perfect octahedral spinel crystals—spinel within spinel! 🤯 We also observed fingerprint-like inclusions, which are a result of healed fractures.

Looking even closer, we found that the surface of these octahedral crystals had striations and triangular etch marks, which are unique growth and dissolution features. We even spotted some simple contact twining, where two crystals grow in a mirrored fashion.

These tiny details aren't flaws—they're a story. They tell us about the gem's formation deep within the Earth. It's a reminder that every gemstone is a geological marvel with a history all its own.

TGC විද්‍යාගාරයට ලැබුණු කැරට් 1.94ක සුවිශේෂී ස්පිනල් මැණික් ගලක තොරතුරු අන්වීක්ෂයෙන් හෙළිදරව් වුණා. එහි වර්තන දර්ශකය (refractive index - RI) 1.718 ලෙස සටහන් වූ අතර එය මෙම මැණික් ගල හඳුනාගැනීමට ප්‍රධාන සාධකයක් වුණා.

නමුත් මේ මැණික් ගලෙහි වඩාත්ම සිත් ගත් කොටස එහි අන්තර්ගතයන් (inclusions)!

මෙම ස්පිනල් ගල කුඩා, පරිපූර්ණ අෂ්ටාශ්‍රාකාර ස්පිනල් ස්ඵටිකවලින් පිරී තිබුණා. එය හරියට ස්පිනල් තුළ තවත් ස්පිනල් ස්ඵටිකයක් තිබුණා වගේ. 🤯

තවත් සමීපව බැලූ විට, මෙම අෂ්ටාශ්‍රාකාර ස්ඵටිකවල මතුපිට ඉරි (striations) සහ ත්‍රිකෝණාකාර සලකුණු (triangular etch marks) තිබෙනු දක්නට ලැබුණා. ඒවා ස්ඵටික වර්ධනයේ සහ ද්‍රව වීමේ සුවිශේෂී ලක්ෂණ ලෙස සැලකෙනවා. තවද, එකම ආකාරයේ ස්ඵටික දෙකක් එකට වැඩෙන සරල සම්බන්ධක නිවුන් ස්ඵටික (simple contact twining) ද අපට හඳුනා ගැනීමට හැකි වුණා.

මෙම කුඩා තොරතුරු පෘථිවිය තුළ ගැඹුරින් මෙම මැණික් ගල සෑදුණු ආකාරය පිළිබඳ ලස්සන කතාවක් අපට පවසනවා. සෑම මැණික් ගලක්ම තමන්ටම ආවේණික ඉතිහාසයක් සහිත භූ විද්‍යාත්මක පුදුමයක් බව එයින් නැවතත් සිහිපත් කරනවා.

✨ When examining a beautiful Bright Green Apatite gemstone, we identified a fascinating inclusion that helped confirm its identity: an apatite crystal itself!

🔍 This tiny crystal, visible under magnification, exhibited a low relief and a distinct hexagonal crystal shape. These tell-tale features are characteristic of the apatite mineral group and served as strong evidence for our gemological identification.

It's a wonderful example of how gemology relies on the intricate details of crystal structure to understand the true nature of a gemstone. Apatite, a phosphate mineral, is not only prized for its vibrant colors but also offers a peek into the world of crystallography.
ලස්සන දීප්තිමත් කොළ පැහැති ඇපටයිට් මැණික් ගලක් පරීක්ෂා කිරීමේදී අපූරු දෙයක් සොයා ගත්තා. එය හඳුනා ගැනීමට උපකාරී වූ එහිම ඇපටයිට් ස්ඵටිකයක් අපට දැකගන්න ලැබුණා! ✨
