BOWEN ESTATE, classic coonawarra™ - a family owned and operated business is a dream of Doug and Joy Bowen that has gradually been evolving over the past 40 years and now involves their daughter, Emma. Located on prime Coonawarra terra rossa soil they produce a small, quintessential range of classic Coonawarra wines.
Much of their philosophy for the style of wine that they like to produce begins with the vineyard. Firstly, the location of the vineyard is on the traditional prime terra rossa soil of Coonawarra. This is of the utmost importance to the Bowens. Secondly, they have a very strong belief in the traditional hand pruning of their vines, combined with an arch cane trellis system. This improves the evenness of budburst, bunch exposure and ripeness, but more importantly, this method of pruning ensures that they have a balanced vine. Therefore the vine will produce fruit of optimum quality. It is this optimum fruit that makes Bowen Estate’s bench mark wines which reflect the true characteristics of Coonawarra - strong varietal aromas, big flavours and soft balanced tannins.

2016 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
The ideal vintage conditions set this wine up from its inception to achieve high standards. All the classic Coonawarra hallmarks are evident in the wine and ensure absolute pleasure on consumption. On the nose lovely dark berry characters are finely integrated with the subtle French oak nuances. The Coonawarra hallmarks continue through to the palate with long fine tannins giving structure to the wine and supporting beautifully balanced fruit flavours entwined with lively spice structure. A fine wine for any cellar. Pairs well with Red meat, pasta dishes, blue and vintage cheeses.
2016 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz
A lovely dark purple density of colour alludes to the depth of flavour of this wine. The fabulous vintage conditions amplified the rich plum fruit characters which our Shiraz vines produce. As ever with strong Coonawarra vintages the layers of flavour on the palate are endless. Fine tannins are melded with great Shiraz fruit characters giving palate depth and balance. A wine to drink now and into the future. Pairs well with Casseroles, tagines, white meat and soft cheeses.
2016 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Chardonnay
This wine looked very promising from the moment it finished fermenting and showed very fragrant apple and pear characters from the beginning. One of the most alluring properties of this wine is the fine crisp acid balance, again evident from day one. Barrel fermentation in new French oak barriques has lengthened the palate to enhance the fruit characters and ensures the wine is enthralling from beginning to end. Pairs well with Salads, seafood, light curries and Asian meals.
