Our team had a great experience attending the first ever TiE CON in Sri Lanka on the 9th of January 2026. It was encouraging to see professionals from different disciplines come together to connect, exchange ideas, and engage in thoughtful conversations.

The sessions provided useful perspectives on leadership, innovation, and operating in a rapidly evolving global business environment. The discussions around collaboration, technology, and long term thinking closely aligned with how we approach our own work and growth.

A sincere thank you to TiE Colombo and the organising team for delivering a well planned and impactful event, and for bringing together conversations that were timely, relevant, and thoughtfully curated.

Last week, we conducted a UX workshop at the University of Colombo School of Computing, where we explored the foundations of UX design and how it has evolved into growth design as a practical way to modernise products. We discussed why many software products need to be modernised over time and how UX can be used as a practical, structured way to improve existing systems without rebuilding them from scratch.

This session marked the first in a planned workshop series for UCSC. We look forward to continuing this initiative, sharing industry knowledge, and engaging with the wider academic community in the months ahead.

Before You Modernise, Listen to the People Closest to the Product
Capturing Stakeholder Concerns the Right Way!

A product modernisation plan can look perfect on paper, until reality kicks in.

➡️ Executives think engineering is slowing growth.
➡️ Sales avoids demos that expose broken flows.
➡️ Support keeps firefighting the same issues week after week.
➡️ Legal flags compliance gaps that could block expansion.

These aren’t side notes, they’re the signals that shape what really needs fixing first.

That’s why our Modernisation Canvas includes a frame dedicated to Internal
Stakeholder Concerns.

It surfaces the recurring frustrations, risks, and blockers across support, sales,
product, engineering, and leadership, before they turn into expensive surprises later.

Because when every team’s voice is captured early, modernisation stops being an engineering project, and becomes a business-wide transformation.

Have you ever felt stuck with software that still works… but just isn’t keeping up?

Legacy systems can be slow, buggy, and risky—but modernising them doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It’s about taking small, smart steps: focusing on the features that matter most, understanding what’s holding your system back, and planning the right fixes or upgrades.

In this guide, we break down a practical approach to reviving legacy software, so you can make it faster, safer, and ready for the future as business.
âś… Prioritise what matters
âś… Tackle technical & architectural debt
âś… Spot weak points before they break
âś… Plan your upgrade in a structured way

Modernisation doesn’t start because the UI looks outdated.
It starts when pressure builds from all sides.

➡️ Maybe an enterprise deal got stuck in legal because you missed compliance.
➡️ Maybe support tickets jumped 30% this quarter.
➡️ Or maybe investors are asking how you’ll scale with a legacy codebase.

These are the signals that tell you, staying the same has become riskier than changing.

That’s why our Modernisation Canvas includes the Initiative Drivers & Forces frames.
They surface what’s really making modernisation urgent: market shifts, technical debt, customer friction, or missed opportunities.

When the “why now” is clear, every other decision, what to fix first, how fast to move, and what success looks like, becomes a whole lot easier.

Modernising a product isn’t just about new tech, it’s about the people building it.

Too often, companies jump in assuming their current team has every skill needed. But gaps in cloud migration, security, data modelling, or modern UI/UX can quickly derail the journey.

What happens then?
👉 Delays pile up.
👉 Budgets spiral.
👉 Quality suffers.

That’s why we clearly look at team skills and capacity before any roadmap is set. It surfaces blind spots early and creates a plan to fill them whether through training, hiring, or elastic engineering support.

Because the right roadmap without the right skills is still the wrong plan.

Last week’s meetup was all about energy, laughter, and some friendly competition. We swapped keyboards for cricket bats and had an absolute blast playing indoor cricket ..... complete with unexpected catches, playful rivalries, and lots of cheering from the sidelines. 🏏
It’s moments like these that remind us how much fun teamwork can be ... both on and off the field!

A part of our amaing team joined in for this fun-filled day, making it one to remember. đź’Ş

Every product has areas that silently slow it down, but the real blockers aren’t always in the code or the design. Maybe they’re in the roles and behaviours around it.

❌ Engineers avoid small changes because deployments feel risky.
❌ Sales loses deals when integrations drag on.
❌ Customers build their own workarounds because features don’t fully deliver.

That’s why in our Modernisation Canvas, we map out Associated Roles & Behaviours, not just the systems, but the people who interact with them every day.

When you surface these hidden frictions, you uncover where time, trust, and momentum are quietly leaking away.

And that’s when modernisation becomes about more than just fixing code, or doing a revamp. it’s about fixing how the team and product move together.
