Our service has been set up by Dr.Asoka Thenabadu a Consultant Paediatrician of Sri Lankan origin who had been resident in the UK since 1975. During this time he has been involved in the teaching of a large number of British medical students. Dr.Asoka Thenabadu realized the value of organizing good elective placements for overseas students in Sri Lanka. Dr.Thenabadu (affectionately called Dr.Asoka

or 'Dr.T') is now semi retired to Sri Lanka and spends the British summer in the UK. Medical students could move about without hassle and worry in their daily routine in hospital or travelling the countryside. This scheme is aimed at medical students from the UK, Australia, Europe, America and Canada to experience top quality medical teaching in Sri Lanka (a developing country) which has very high standards of medical care. All the Consultants have been trained in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The registrars at the wards have undergone a long period of structured training and are very helpful and keen to teach.
