As February came to a close, Solutions Ground convened the 2026 Private Sector Engagement Forum, bringing together private sector organisations and representatives of the Grassroots Resource Collectors Association (GRCA) of the Western Province.

Across Sri Lanka’s recycling ecosystem, grassroots collectors play a critical but often under-recognised role. Their work in collection, segregation, and material recovery forms the backbone of much of the province’s informal waste management system.

The forum created an opportunity for direct dialogue between industry and grassroots collectors, focusing on strengthening recycling linkages, exploring commercially viable partnerships, and improving working conditions and market access for those operating at the frontlines of material recovery.

Meaningful progress in waste management requires collaboration across the entire value chain. Conversations such as these are an important step toward building more inclusive and effective systems.
We thank the Grassroots Resource Collectors Association of the Western Province and all participating organisations for their engagement and commitment to advancing sustainable waste management in Sri Lanka.
