On this International Day of Plant Health, we spotlight the vital theme: "Plant Biosecurity for Food Security."
In Sri Lanka, our agriculture is the heartbeat of our nation. From the golden paddy fields of the dry zone to the lush tea estates of the central highlands and the coconut triangles of the coast, our food security depends on one thing: Keeping our plants healthy.
Effective biosecurity is our first line of defense against invasive pests and diseases that threaten our livelihoods and our plates. By strengthening border controls, supporting our National Plant Quarantine Services (NPQS), and practicing responsible farming, we ensure a bountiful harvest for generations to come.
