🌟 IOM Sri Lanka proudly concludes its "Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment" (PSEAH) Champions Learning Training.

Representing all departments at IOM Sri Lanka, the newly trained PSEAH Champions are now assigned to lead and strengthen the mainstreaming of Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) across projects, programmes, and workplace practices — while supporting the implementation of the IOM Action Plan on PSEAH & Respectful Workplace.

This initiative marks an important step in strengthening safeguarding, accountability, and respectful workplace culture across operations.

Looking ahead, IOM aims to extend this expertise to civil society organizations (CSOs) and government partners across Sri Lanka through its growing network of trained PSEAH Champions.

Together, we continue building safer spaces for all. ✨

Happy Birthday, IOM Sri Lanka 🎂✨

This week marks 24 years since IOM opened its Sri Lanka office in 2002, supporting communities and migrants every step of the way.

Did you know?
🌐In 1990, Sri Lanka became a Member State of IOM, when the organization facilitated the return of over 90,000 Sri Lankan domestic workers during the Gulf War.
🌐Following this, IOM opened its first office in Colombo in 2002 and later expanded to five field offices—Jaffna, Batticaloa, Mannar, Trincomalee, and Kurunegala.

For over two decades, IOM has worked with communities, partners, and the Government of Sri Lanka to support people on the move, respond to crises, and build resilient communities.

🌍 Committed to safe, orderly, and humane migration for all. 🤝

IOM Provides Cash Assistance to 4,000 Cyclone Ditwah-Affected Families in Sri Lanka 🏡

With support from the United Nations Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), in coordination with the Government of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and implemented in partnership with the Sri Lanka Red Cross, IOM formally concluded its cash-based intervention (CBI) at a closing ceremony in the Puttalam District in the presence of Mr. Y.I.M. Silva, District Secretary of Puttalam, Ms. Kristin Parco, IOM Chief of Mission to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, along with government officials and community members 🤝

The cash assistance was provided to over 4,000 families in 7 districts, aimed at providing each household with support for home repairs 🛠️ and to purchase essential household items.

This assistance is part of broader support extended through the UN Humanitarian Priorities Plan (HPP), with cash-based assistance and distribution of over 4,700 essential non-food items (NFIs) to families in 60 locations.

As climate risks grow, IOM remains committed to strengthening resilience and supporting long-term recovery 💪.

Despite being a part of human history for centuries, migration is still widely misunderstood, with many misconceptions surrounding migration-related terms, trends, and realities.

When displaced communities return home after Cyclone Ditwah, the next challenge is rebuilding their damaged homes 🏘️

With funding from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and the Government of Japan 🇯🇵, IOM supported more than 4,000 households across seven districts through shelter repair toolkits and cash-based assistance to help rebuild their homes.
