1942 ලෝකයුධ සමයේ ජපන් ගුවන් ප්‍රහාරයකින් ගිලීගිය බ්‍රිටිෂ් සාර්ජන්ට් නම් බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය නෞකාව ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ඇති ආකර්ෂණීයම කිමිදුම් ස්ථානයකි. බෝම්බ ප්‍රහාරයෙන් සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම කොටස් දෙකකට වෙන්වූ මෙම දැවැන්ත යාත්‍රාව මීටර් 25 ගැඹුරු මුහුදු පත්ලේ දහස් ගනනක් සමූද්‍ර ජීවීන්ට සෙවන සදමින් වැතිර පවතී.
නැගෙනහිර ගවේෂණ කටයුතු අතර මෙම නෞකාව වෙත කිමිදීමට අප කිසිවිටකත් අතපසු නොකලෙමු.
During our fieldwork and exploration activities along the east coast, we never miss an opportunity to dive on this remarkable shipwreck.
The British Sergeant, a British tanker sunk during a Japanese air raid in 1942, is one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular dive sites. Split completely into two sections by the bombing, this massive vessel now rests on the seabed at a depth of approximately 25 metres, providing shelter to thousands of marine organisms and forming a thriving artificial reef.

The ongoing underwater archaeological explorations in Trincomalee continue to reveal the remarkable diversity of Sri Lanka's submerged cultural heritage. From ancient stone structures and wooden sailing vessels to World War II aircraft and modern shipwrecks, the seabed preserves an extraordinary record of our maritime past.
Systematic documentation of these underwater sites is essential to ensuring that this heritage is sustainably managed, effectively monitored, and protected for future generations.

ත්‍රිකුණාමලය මුහුදේ මුහුදු පුරාවිද්‍යා ගවේෂණ, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දියයට සැඟවුණු සංස්කෘතික උරුමයේ විවිධත්වය අනාවරණය කරයි. පැරණි ගල්කණු, ගොඩනැගිලි අවශේෂ, 17වන සියවසේ රුවල් යාත්‍රාවල සිට දෙවන ලෝක යුධසමයේ ගුවන්යානා දක්වා අපගේ සමුද්‍රීය ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳ අගනා සාක්ෂි රැසක් මහමුහුද සුරක්ෂිතව රඳවාගෙන ඇත. එම අවශේෂ ක්‍රමානුකූලව ලේඛනගත කිරීම, අනාගත පරපුර වෙනුවෙන් ඒවා තිරසාර ලෙස කළමනාකරණය කිරීමට, නිරීක්ෂණය කිරීමට සහ ආරක්ෂා කිරීමට පදනමක් සපයයි.

ත්‍රිකුණාමලය මුහුදු පතුලින් මතුවන ෛපැරණි ගල් කැටයම්
ත්‍රිකුණාමලය තිරුකෝණෙෂ්වරම් තුඩුවට බටහිරින් මෙම පැරණි කැටයම් සහිත ගල් කුළුණු හිස්, කොරවක් ගලක අවශේෂ සහ පාදම් හමුවෙනවා. මුහුදු පුරාවිද්‍යා ඒකකය 2017 වසරේ සිට මෙම ස්ථානයේ ගවේෂණ සහ පර්‍යේෂණ කටයුතුවල නියුතුව සිටිනවා.

Ancient Stone Carvings Emerging from the Seabed of Trincomalee
Ancient carved stone pillars, fragments of a korawak gala (balustrade), and stone bases have been discovered off the western side of the Tirukoneswaram promontory in Trincomalee. The Maritime Archaeology Unit has been conducting underwater exploration and research at this site since 2017.
