எனவே, கடவுச்சீட்டின் Alterations Page (திருத்தங்கள் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட பக்கம்) இல் மட்டும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள பெயர் மாற்றங்கள் பல நாடுகளின் விசா அதிகாரிகளால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படாமல் இருக்கலாம்.

வெளிநாட்டு குடியுரிமை பெற்ற ஒருவரை திருமணம் செய்து, உங்கள் கணவரின் குடும்பப் பெயரை (Surname) பயன்படுத்த விரும்பும் பெண்கள், விசாவிற்கு விண்ணப்பிப்பதற்கு முன், அந்தப் பெயர் Biodata Page-இல் இடம்பெறும் வகையில் புதிய கடவுச்சீட்டை பெற்றுக்கொள்வது மிகவும் பரிந்துரைக்கப்படுகிறது.

ஆனால், தற்போது உங்கள் கடவுச்சீட்டில் உள்ளபடி உங்கள் தந்தையின் குடும்பப் பெயரையே தொடர்ந்து பயன்படுத்த விரும்பினால், இதுகுறித்து கவலைப்படத் தேவையில்லை. உங்கள் தற்போதைய கடவுச்சீட்டைப் பயன்படுத்தியே விசாவிற்கு விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்.

Please note that the visa authorities of many countries process applications strictly based on the name as it appears on the passport biodata page, including the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ). Any name change recorded only on the passport's Alterations page may not be accepted for visa processing.

If you are a woman who has married a foreign national and wish to use your husband's surname, you are strongly advised to obtain a new passport reflecting your new name on the biodata page before applying for a visa.

However, if you wish to continue using your father's surname (as currently shown on your passport biodata page), no further action is required, and you may continue to use your existing passport.

When applying for a visit visa to Western countries, visa officers carefully evaluate a few key factors. Understanding these can significantly improve your chances of approval.

1. Travel History Matters
One of the first things visa officers look at is your travel history. For Sri Lankan applicants, traveling only to India is generally not considered strong travel history.

There are many affordable destinations in Southeast Asia. Visiting a few of these countries first helps establish a reasonable travel pattern. From a visa officer’s perspective, it makes more sense when an applicant has explored affordable destinations before planning a trip to a Western country.

Otherwise, strong justification—such as visiting children or close family members living abroad—becomes even more important.

2. Financial Stability – It’s About Income, Not Just Savings
A very common question is: “How much money should I show in my bank account?”
Visa officers are not only concerned about the balance in your account. They carefully examine:
• Your monthly income
• Your expenses
• The total cost of the proposed trip
• Whether the trip is affordable based on your earnings
• How long it would reasonably take you to recover the travel cost

Your savings must logically match your income.
