🎓 Connecting Industry, Education & the Future

The Department of Decision Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully conducted an Industry Stakeholder Consultation on the proposed curriculum for the B.Sc. Honours Degree Programme in Operations and Technology Management on 04 September 2026 at the Senate Boardroom.

The consultation brought together industry experts and academics to share their valuable insights, experiences, and recommendations on the proposed revision of the degree programme, its curriculum structure, and areas of specialization.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all industry stakeholders for sharing their expertise and perspectives and for supporting our commitment to developing future-ready graduates in Decision Sciences.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and the Chair of the Faculty Curriculum Development and Review Committee (CRDC) for their guidance, encouragement, and continued support throughout this initiative.

Special appreciation goes to Senior Lecturer (Ms.) Nithya Parameswara, Department Coordinator for Curriculum Development and Review, for her dedication, commitment, and excellent coordination in planning and organizing the consultation.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. L. H. T. De S. Wickramasooriya, Head of the Department of Decision Sciences, for his valuable support, guidance, and encouragement throughout this initiative. We sincerely appreciate all the academic and non-academic staff members whose valuable contributions and support helped make this event a success.

This consultation marks an important milestone in the development of our proposed degree programme and reflects the collective commitment and collaborative efforts of everyone involved in shaping the future of Operations and Technology Management education.

From Fabric to Finish - Seeing It All Firsthand! 🧵

Our third-year Decision Sciences students had an amazing learning experience at Omega Line, Sandalankawa on 25th August 2026! 🏭✨

As part of the DSC 3378: Operations Systems Design and Management course, students explored the entire apparel manufacturing journey from warehousing and inspection to cutting, sewing, dye house operations, and accessory production. 🧶👕

This fantastic industry exposure was organized by Ms. Aruni Fernando. 🙌

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Felix Fernando, CEO of Omega Line, and Mr. Saman Jayasinghe for facilitating the visit, and to Mr. B. L. S. P. Nishantha for coordinating the programme.

🏭 Industry Exposure in Action! 🏭

Our third-year Decision Sciences undergraduates stepped out of the classroom and into the field with a visit to Vario Systems, Badalgama on 6th August 2026! 🚀

As part of the DSC 3378: Operations Systems Design and Management course, students got a firsthand look at real-world operations and facility layout — connecting theory with practice in the best way possible. 👏

This insightful visit was organized by Ms. Chathurika Jayasuriya and Ms. Aruni Fernando

Third-year undergraduates of the Department of Decision Sciences explore Airport Passenger Experience and Air Cargo Operations at Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Department of Decision Sciences recently organized an educational field visit to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for third year undergraduates following the Logistics and Transport Management course.

The visit commenced with an in depth exploration of the customer journey at Sri Lanka's primary international gateway. Students traced the complete passenger experience from arrival at the airport through check in, security screening, departure procedures, and boarding.

The students then visited the Air Cargo Village, where they gained valuable insights into air cargo operations and logistics. The session covered the end to end cargo handling process, including cargo acceptance, documentation, warehousing, cargo build up, and export and import operations.

The field visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect the theoretical concepts learned in the Logistics and Transport Management course with real-world practices in passenger service operations and international air cargo logistics.

The Department of Decision Sciences sincerely thanks Mr. Aruna Rajapakse, Head of Airport Management, for facilitating this valuable learning opportunity and providing students with a comprehensive understanding of airport passenger operations. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Rajatha Medawewa, Head of Airfreight, Mr. Senal Kulathunga, Manager, Airfreight Management, and Mr. Bandara, Senior Manager, Dart Global Logistics, for conducting highly informative sessions on air cargo operations and sharing their industry expertise with our students.

The Department remains committed to fostering strong industry partnerships and providing experiential learning opportunities that equip students with the knowledge, practical exposure, and professional competencies required in the fields of logistics, transport, and supply chain management.
