I'm delighted to share one of our latest completed projects by TARCK Chartered Architects—
COLOM BAY Restaurant and Barista Port City, located within the same building at Port City, Sri Lanka.
The concept explores a contemporary, high-end hospitality experience within an expressive steel structure inspired by the proportions of shipping containers. The architecture celebrates honesty in construction while creating warm, inviting interiors that balance industrial character with refined luxury.
The ground floor houses COLOM BAY, a fine-dining restaurant designed to offer an immersive dining experience. Exposed steel columns and beams establish a strong architectural rhythm, complemented by warm timber finishes, custom lighting, premium furnishings, and carefully curated materials that create an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere.
The upper level accommodates Barista Port City, conceived as a relaxed social destination. Generous glazing, an open terrace, and flexible seating maximize natural light while connecting visitors to the surrounding waterfront environment. A sculptural spiral staircase links the upper outdoor terrace with the landscaped ground-floor dining area, strengthening the relationship between the two levels.
A special aspect of this project is that TARCK Chartered Architects designed the bespoke furniture exclusively for the space. Every piece was carefully developed to complement the architecture, with meticulous attention given to selecting the right timber tones, upholstery fabrics, and quartz tabletops. This holistic design approach allowed us to create a cohesive interior where every detail contributes to the overall dining experience and brand identity.
To the rear, the outdoor dining area extends the experience beyond the building envelope. Landscaped pockets, soft lighting, and steel pergola elements create a tranquil setting where architecture and nature blend seamlessly.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was transforming a steel-framed structure into a sophisticated hospitality destination while preserving the bold character of its container-inspired form.
From concept design to completion, the entire project was delivered in just six weeks. The development accommodates over 200 guests, incorporating a fine-dining restaurant, a restaurant bar, generous outdoor dining spaces, and the new Barista café.
A sincere thank you to our client, consultants, contractors, and the entire project team for their dedication and collaboration in bringing this vision to life.
