🌴 HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU INSPECT YOUR OIL PALM PLANTATION?🌴

And it is very true. In farming, learning never stops — especially when it comes to managing a successful plantation.

Many farmers make the mistake of inspecting their farm ONLY when there is a problem. But by then, it is often too late and expensive to fix.

Regular inspection helps you catch small issues early before they become big problems that can destroy your yield.

WHAT SHOULD YOU CHECK DURING INSPECTION?
✅ Condition and health of the palms
✅ W**d growth and competition

✅ Signs of pests and diseases
✅ Water stress
✅ Animal damage
✅ Drainage and general cleanliness

HOW OFTEN?
🌱 Young Palms (0-3 years): Inspect WEEKLY — They are babies, very vulnerable.
🌴 Growing Palms (4-7 years): Inspect BI-WEEKLY — Monitor growth and nutrition.
🌴🌴 Mature Palms (8+ years): Inspect MONTHLY — Focus on fruit yield and harvesting.

Before the war, Liberia relied on these 3 crops. They built our economy. They sent our children to school. We abandoned them, and we became poor.

It's time to go back!

WHY WE MUST INVEST IN COCOA, OIL PALM & COFFEE:

1. MASSIVE JOB CREATION FOR OUR YOUTH
One person cannot farm 10 acres alone. These crops need workers — for clearing, planting, maintenance, harvesting, processing, and transport.
- 1,000 acres of oil palm = 500+ direct jobs
- 1,000 acres of cocoa/coffee = 300+ direct jobs
This is how we stop our young people from riding Bikes and give them dignified work in their own villages.

Cocoa, palm oil, and coffee are in HIGH DEMAND worldwide. When we export them, US DOLLARS come INTO Liberia. Our currency becomes strong.

- Cocoa produces for 30+ years
- Oil palm produces for 25+ years
- Coffee produces for 20+ years
Plant once, harvest for your children and grandchildren. This is generational wealth.

4. WE CAN FEED OUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Oil palm gives us cooking oil, soap, and fuel. No need to import palm oil from Malaysia when we have better land than they do

Today, we had the privilege of hosting and training fellow farmers on Best Agricultural Practices in Farm Management.

It wasn't just about farming; it was about farming RIGHT.

THE SECRET BEHIND GREAT CHOCOLATE: COCOA FERMENTATION 🍫

Did you know? Without proper fermentation, your cocoa will NEVER make good chocolate. It will just be bitter and flat.

Fermentation is the most IMPORTANT step in cocoa production. It transforms fresh, bitter, inedible beans into the rich, flavorful beans the world pays high price for.

HOW IT WORKS (2 to 7 Days)

Fermentation happens in 2 stages in wooden boxes, baskets, heaps or banana leaves:

PHASE 1: ANAEROBIC (No Oxygen) - First 24 to 48 Hours
Fresh beans with sweet white pulp are piled.
Yeasts eat the sugar in the pulp and turn it into alcohol.
Lactic acid bacteria produce lactic acid.

PHASE 2: AEROBIC (With Oxygen) - Day 2 Onwards
We TURN the beans to let air in.
Acetic acid bacteria convert alcohol into acetic acid.
Temperature rises to 45°C - 50°C. This heat KILLS the embryo, so the bean cannot sprout.
Inside the bean, enzymes break down bitterness and build chocolate flavor and brown color.

METHODS WE USE:

✓ Heap / Banana Leaf Method: Common for small farmers in West Africa
✓ Box System: Best for cooperatives and larger farms - wooden boxes stacked and turned properly
✓ Critical Rule: You need at least 150kg (about 1,500 pods) to generate enough heat. Small quantity = poor fermentation.

*WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU AS A FARMER:

❌ Without fermentation = Bitter, no chocolate flavor = Low price, rejected by buyers.
✅ With good fermentation = Rich chocolate aroma, good color, high grade = Premium price!
