Today, we honor and remember Former President Joseph Jenkins Roberts who was a visionary leader, diplomat, and statesman whose legacy continues to shape the Republic of Liberia.

As Liberia’s first President, Roberts played a historic role in consolidating the young republic, strengthening its international recognition, and promoting education as a pathway to national progress. One of his most impactful contributions was his strong support for education and scholarship opportunities, particularly through institutions like Liberia College (which later became the University of Liberia). These efforts helped lay the foundation for generations of Liberian scholars, professionals, and leaders who continue to contribute to the nation and the world.

Through scholarship programs and educational advocacy inspired by leaders like Roberts, countless Liberians have gained access to knowledge, leadership training, and opportunities abroad, returning home to serve in government, business, science, education, and community development.
