WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO KEEP THE FREEPORT OF MONROVIA MOVING?

For participants in Liberia’s National Vacation Job Program 2026, a two-month placement at APM Terminals Liberia offered an opportunity to find out firsthand. Led jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labour, the program provides young Liberians with practical workplace exposure and opportunities to build skills, preparing them for future careers.

During the program, participants gained exposure to day-to-day terminal operations and engaged with colleagues across different functions. They got to experience how teams across our operation contribute to a shared purpose: keeping cargo moving and supporting the flow of trade that connects Liberia to the world.

As part of their development, they also completed introductory training in Lean, Problem Solving and Visual Management, building their understanding of continuous improvement, collaboration and structured problem-solving.

FROM INTERN TO HEAD OF OPERATIONS: CELEBRATING EBENEZER OPOKU 🎉

In 2013, Ebenezer began his journey with APM Terminals as an intern. Today, that journey enters an exciting new chapter as he takes on the role of Head of Operations within our Senior Management team.

From planning and frontline ex*****on to people leadership and regional standardization, Ebenezer has continued to grow while contributing to stronger teams, better processes and operational excellence across the APM Terminals network.

His journey is a powerful example of employee growth, opportunity and development of local talent from within.

SUPPORTING LIBERIA’S GROWING TRADE DEMANDS

Cargo volumes moving through the Freeport of Monrovia reached the highest ever recorded - 18,012 TEUs in August 2026, reflecting continued growth in trade and economic activity.

Growing volumes underscore the importance of planned investments aimed at increasing port capacity and supporting the future needs of importers, exporters and consumers across the country.

Through collaboration between the Government of Liberia, the National Port Authority, APM Terminals Liberia and industry partners, efforts continue to focus on strengthening a port ecosystem that can support the country's development and growing trade requirements.

During the month, vessel operations also achieved an average productivity of 17.2 crane moves per hour, reflecting the continued focus on operational performance while accommodating growing cargo volumes.

As Liberia's gateway for international trade, the port plays an important role in connecting communities and businesses to global opportunities.

A UNIQUE WAY TO KICK OFF INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS! 🇱🇷

On Friday, our APM Terminals Liberia team came together for a vibrant Cultural Day event, honouring the traditions, diversity, and heritage of Liberia.

From colourful traditional attire to music, food, and shared moments, it was a day filled with pride, laughter, and appreciation for Liberia’s rich cultural heritage.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and made the celebration a success. Congratulations to B**g County for securing the third spot, Montserrado County coming second, and Lofa County for being crowned the overall winners of this year’s cultural showcase! 🎉
