A man full of energy, hope, a leader, and a servant.
I have observed from a distance, listening to various stories about a man's character and success, which people narrate in their own ways. Even my generation, who know little about the truth, regurgitates what they hear and contribute to bringing a successful man down. However, I chose to look at it differently. I made an effort to get closer and reveal the real person behind the stories.
I connected with his son, Lyee K Bility, who has given me many opportunities to explore. He introduced me to the man I had long heard about: “Hon. Musa Hassan Bility.” Wow! He shook my hand and asked me, “Are you ready?” I replied, “Yes, Mr. Bility.”
I thought to myself silently, “Who is this man?” Despite all the negative things I had heard, I discovered the opposite. I saw a father—humble, strong, courageous, hopeful—a man full of energy, a workaholic, a fighter, and someone who wants to see results and drive change. I saw an institution builder and a man who views poverty as an enemy. Overall, I saw a leader.
I visited his businesses, and we personally toured his district from town to village. I witnessed what he is doing for the poor people—building roads, bridges, providing electricity, and rehabilitating schools, among other initiatives. He graciously allowed me to see his homes and meet his family and friends.
I had the privilege of hearing about his humble beginnings, which I will elaborate on in my next post.
Fellow young people, Hon. Musa Hassan Bility is not what some may portray him to be; he is the opposite. Don't let propaganda cloud your perception of a man whose story can inspire and motivate you to remain strong in your own pursuits. This Liberian man is blessed and is giving back generously. I hope this message inspires you, and I pray you have the chance to meet him as well. I am grateful.
