Dear farmers
A good health plan is very important in livestock production

Health Management plan

*Good sanitation-clean the environment,feeders and waterers

*control internal and external parasites by regular deworming,spraying and seek veterinary help for vaccinations and injections

*have close observation to the animals at all times as it is easy to detect sick animals

*isolate sick animals from healthy animals
*keep proper health records and have dead animals buried or safely disposed

*perform post-moterm on dead animals
*quarantine new animals for 30 days

*provide salt licks and clean water daily
*ensure adequate and balanced nutrition daily
*do rotational grazing to prevent the build-up of parasites

*trim hoofs and horns when necessary

Why should one consider cross breeding over inbreeding?

Inbreeding occurs between very closely related animals e.g full siblings,mother-to-son or father to daughter.
Inbreeding often results in weak and small piglets ,a small number of piglets born(litter size),high mortality rate(li a shoa) or disorders (bokooa)

Cross breeding occurs between two different breeds of pigs e.g Hampshire and Duroc.
Offsprings are different from either parent and results in offsprings perforiming better than both parents,high litter size ,high production, and many more.
