A major milestone for democracy and citizen participation in Lesotho.

The Independent Electoral Commission IEC Lesotho, with support from the UNDP through funding from the European Union in Lesotho, has officially signed off and launched the Voter Registration Strategy and Civic and Voter Education Strategy.

These important frameworks will guide efforts to build a more inclusive, accurate, and accessible voter registration system while strengthening civic awareness and participation across the country.

Implemented in partnership with International IDEA, the Civic and Voter Education campaign will empower citizens with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, encourage informed participation in elections, and promote transparent and accountable governance.

This achievement reflects the shared commitment of the IEC, the European Union in Lesotho, UNDP, International IDEA, and other partners to strengthening democratic governance and ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate meaningfully in shaping Lesotho's future.

Yesterday, UNDP Lesotho joined local communities, traditional leaders, and partners at Ts’enekeng Community Botanical Garden in Semonkong to commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026.

Under the theme “Biodiversity: Our Life, Our Future”, we explored Lesotho’s rich highland flora, learned about indigenous plants such as Kharetsa (Aloe polyphylla), Seboku, and Lethophu, and reaffirmed our commitment to protecting the country’s unique biodiversity.

From guided tours of the botanical garden to meaningful community engagement and knowledge sharing, the day was truly inspiring.

A heartfelt thank you to the Ts’enekeng community for hosting us, and to everyone who joined us in celebrating and protecting our natural heritage for future generations.

Our mountains. Our plants. Our future.
