CV HAS TO BE ONE PAGE if you are the pilot?
Seriously??? Who told you that? Where does this come from? I have some ideas where are the roots, but still..
I find every candidate as unique life story. CV is something that gives me a hint to open the doors of that story. I feel richer after every interview. It’s like reading the book of the life, unique life, with respect for everything that happened.
You say the times in aviation are never stable. There are plenty of unemployed pilots or airlines are desperate to find people to fly big birds? Yes, but.
When I ask Cadets (future airlines pilots), very enthusiastic and motivated people, with limited experience – who told you that your CV has to be one page? Why do you shortcut or just selectively delete important information from your CV, just to fit one page? Usual answer is – somebody advised, or there is belief, that HR does not have time to read long CV.
But can you imagine Professional pilot, being at his respectful 55, having fantastic story of his life to tell in one page? The person who flew almost all continents, has his Dr degree in engineering, a long list of management and business development experience, at the same time flying military then commercial and in some period business airlines, teaching others, volunteering in number of organizations, having the number of fantastic hobbies that help him stay in balance.. – IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIT THAT STORY TO ONE PAGE?
Unfortunately, people still try to FIT them self in to ONE PAGE.
My personal impression is that people who had “strong life” next to flying survived Covid period more smoothly, than those who lost flying- lost living.
So many advice are available in the “School of internet” from old era of “how to make easy life for human resources managers: make your CV short/ make it clean/ easy printable.
Every story is individual, every human has his own style (even if he/she does not think so..yet).
Treating people as resources is something I am not interested any more.
CURIOSITY is my gun, is my tool is my energy to discover people lives, competencies and abilities and most important – POTENTIAL.
