📷 In Spain's Ceuta enclave, migrants continue to not only resettle on Trampolín Beach (picture 1-4), but also sleep in the vicinity of Loma Colmenar (pictures 5-7).

The situation in Loma Colmenar, where dozens of people spent the night from Monday to Tuesday despite the intervention of the National Police, reportedly prompted police to fire warning shots into the air in an attempt to bring the situation under control.

This came on the heels of previous deterrent actions on El Trampolín Beach in Ceuta against migrants who had returned to this area after a makeshift settlement there was cleared. The migrants had been sent to Loma Margarita and the Loma Colmenar reception center, but many eventually returned.

Police also managed queues of migrants (pictures 8/9) and, according to Spanish media outlet ABC, deported at least two individuals with links to jihadist radicalism who were identified in Ceuta.

According to news agency dpa citing information from the Spanish Interior Ministry, around 72,000 migrants swam from Morocco to Ceuta or climbed over border fences on July 30 and 31.

While the majority of those who entered Ceuta - including a large number of children - returned to Morocco shortly after, some 5,000 migrants remain in the enclave, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said in parliament last Friday, according to dpa.

Some of the nearly 85,000 residents of Ceuta, which has a population of around 80,000, are staging increasingly violent protests against the migrants' presence, with recent clashes between residents and police reportedly prompting the Spanish government to appeal for calm.

Over the weekend, the Spanish government asked the EU border agency Frontex for help in processing the remaining migrants.

Yesterday Thursday 27,08, 26, 79 Gambian migrants voluntarily returned home from Libya through the EU International Partnerships-funded programme.

For many of these young men and women, the journey has not been easy. They left home with dreams and hopes for a better future, but along the way, many faced difficult and painful experiences. Today, they have been given another opportunity to return home safely and reunite with the people who have been waiting and praying for them.

Upon their arrival in The Gambia, they received:

🛍️ Non-food item kits
🏡 Temporary accommodation
⚕️ Medical and psychosocial screenings

Soon, they will be reunited with their families and loved ones. ❤️ For some families, this will be the first time they have seen their sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters after months or even years apart.

Returning home is not the end of their journey—it is the beginning of a new chapter. A chapter of healing, rebuilding, and finding new opportunities.

We warmly welcome all 79 Gambian migrants back home. 🇬🇲 We hope they receive the love, support, and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives and create a better future.

No journey is more important than a human life. No matter what happens, there should always be hope and an opportunity to start again. ❤️🙏

Welcome home, brothers and sisters. 🇬🇲❤️

🇪🇸 Spain’s Ceuta Requests Transfer of Hundreds of Unaccompanied Migrant Children

The Spanish enclave of Ceuta has requested that hundreds of unaccompanied migrant children be transferred to mainland Spain after a large influx across the border last week overwhelmed the territory’s accommodation facilities, according to Reuters.

The situation has placed significant pressure on Ceuta’s already limited capacity to house and care for minors arriving without parents or legal guardians.

According to the report, the latest influx has also reignited a political dispute in Spain over the redistribution of unaccompanied migrant children between Ceuta, the Canary Islands and other parts of the country.

Spain’s central government has approved €25 million in emergency assistance for Ceuta as authorities attempt to respond to the increased pressure on accommodation and social services.

The issue highlights the continuing challenges facing Spain’s border territories, which can experience sudden increases in migrant arrivals because of their proximity to North Africa.

The proposed transfers are likely to intensify the wider political debate over migration management, border security and the responsibility of Spain’s regions to accommodate unaccompanied minors.

Authorities have yet to provide a final timetable for the transfers or specify how many children will ultimately be relocated to mainland Spain.
