🐦 Free digital tripwires. No, seriously.
Most people have no idea this exists, and that’s no longer a shame.
Canarytokens
— free, unlimited honeypot-style alerts you can drop anywhere: a Word doc, a PDF, a fake AWS key, a QR code, a VPN config, a Windows folder, a Google Sheet, an email... I like to think of them as hidden caltrops that report back to you.
The second someone touches it, you get notified. No software. No subscription. No setup beyond 30 seconds.
Sample Use case for those still reading!

→ Wait. And don’t sit on the thought that "It couldnt be *blah blah* because they are quiet and friendly and just not someone I would ever suspect of breaching data on purpose...” You may find out quick, or hear nothing at all.
Canary Tokens are not a firewall. It’s a psychological tripwire trap that I bet could be used really well for many purposes because it’s dressed up as a file.
And it’s free.
This is exactly the kind of tool that sits at the intersection of security architecture and behavioral psychology — because the real power isn’t the alert. It’s that once attackers know these exist, they slow down and distrust everything they touch. The paranoia IS the defense.
