The 114.2-meter (375 ft) superyacht Nausicaä (formerly known as Project Cosmos) was officially delivered by the German shipyard Lürssen in the spring of 2026.
Commissioned by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, the vessel is notable for being one of the most technologically ambitious and visually unique superyachts in recent years.
Key Highlights
Design: The yacht was designed entirely by acclaimed Australian industrial designer Marc Newson. It departs from conventional yacht styling, featuring a sculptural, organic silhouette with flowing curves and a “continuous ribbon” of glass that wraps around the upper deck.
Art Gallery Atrium: In place of a traditional main salon, the yacht features a dramatic, double-height atrium designed as a dedicated art gallery space for the owner’s collection.
The “Skydome”: A standout architectural feature is the 56-square-meter owner’s study, which is housed under a massive “Skydome” made of seven large, hot-bent curved glass panes.
Propulsion & Sustainability: Nausicaä is a diesel-electric vessel equipped with a 2 MW battery bank for silent, emission-free operation at anchor. It is also engineered with provisions for methanol fuel cells, which are intended to generate electricity by converting methanol into hydrogen, allowing for extended low-emission cruising.
Explorer Capability: Despite its sleek design, the vessel is built with an Ice Class 1D hull, allowing for safe navigation in polar waters. It also includes a specialized stern dry-dock system to launch and retrieve a 12.5-meter sportsfish tender.
