⭕ Road crashes claim lives in the Eastern Partnership region at more than twice the EU rate.
In 2024, the four EaP countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Ukraine – recorded an average of 9.5 road deaths per 100,000 people, compared with 4.5 in the EU. The gap in injuries is even wider: 120.8 per 100,000, almost four times the EU average of 31.7.
And the trend is not improving over 2020-2024, the regional fatality rate has barely moved, fluctuating between 9.2 and 9.8.
Closing this gap requires evidence-based action – safer infrastructure, stronger enforcement, better road user behavior and effective post-crash response.
