It is 9:40 AM. Your phone is face-down in another room. Your app blockers are on. By every checklist on the internet, you are doing this right.

But two hours later, nothing is actually shipping. Youโ€™ve deleted the same paragraph twice and started reorganizing your Notion workspace.

We treat distraction like itโ€™s a single disease that can be cured with more discipline. It isn't. Walk into five stores, and the employees will all ask the exact same thing: "May I help you?"

Look at five competitors in your industry, and they all have the same offer, the same guarantees, and the same "we care about our customers" positioning.

For years, this "sameness" felt safe. We called it being professional. We copied the market leaders and hoped that by just trying a little harder, we would stand out.

But the rules just changed irreversibly.

AI has collapsed the cost of copying to zero. A machine can now generate the "average" best practiceโ€”the average script, the average landing page, the average offerโ€”for free, in seconds. If your business is built on blending in, you have just automated your own commoditization.
