Information security Related update;

“Dear Data Protection Officers,

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) have issued updated guidance on alternative authentication methods for sending or accessing electronic documents.

In June 2025, organisations were advised to move away from the use of NRIC numbers for authentication and transit to more secure alternatives. PDPC had issued a media release in February 2026 to inform organisations on stricter enforcement action from the PDPC against private organisations that use full or partial NRIC numbers for authentication.

To support this transition, the PDPC and CSA have provided further guidance covering:

Alternative authentication methods
Security considerations for each option
How to assess what works best for different use cases
