Collaborating with 28 SMEs in 5 different agribusiness sectors in Myanmar (for International Trade Centre's Arise Plus Myanmar Trade-Related Assistance project) over the last 6 months has certainly given us a deeper understanding and newfound respect for the challenges these businesses face in getting produce to our tables. These days, globally, farmers are tackling unprecedented climate change effects and Myanmar is no exception. These sectors are the ones we rely on for our sustenance and yet their plight is often ignored. We at iD creative solutions - Image Diplomacy feel privileged to assist them in some small way with their branding and marketing efforts so that they can make their mark on the export market, better benefit from foreign exchange opportunities and also have a greater share of the voice on the international stage. The more they can communicate with the rest of the world - and demonstrate what Myanmar has to offer - the more local businesses feel empowered and are able to grow and thrive sustainably.

The “cyber security law” contains provisions concerning Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), non-social media digital platform services, and business use of social media. If enforced, this current draft disrupts the free flow of information and directly impacts businesses’ abilities to operate legally and effectively in Myanmar. Access to information, technology and services is essential to operations and a healthy national digital economy.

JOINT STATEMENT BY AMBASSADORS TO MYANMAR

Two months ago, on February 9, Mya Thwe Thwe Khine was shot while taking cover under a bus shelter during a protest in Naypyidaw. She was 19.

Since then, over 600 civilians have been killed in Myanmar, many of them while protesting for hard-won democratic rights and freedoms. Children were murdered. Thousands of people have been injured or detained just for giving voice to their desire for freedom and democracy.

We are humbled by their courage and dignity. We are united to accompany the grief of their families and friends. We stand together to support the hopes and aspirations of all those who believe in a free, just, peaceful and democratic Myanmar, where the rights and the potential of all people can be fully respected and developed. Violence has to stop, all political detainees must be released and democracy should be restored

Signed by the Ambassadors to Myanmar from Australia; Canada; the Delegation of the EU and European Union Member States with presence in Myanmar: the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden; New Zealand; Norway; the Republic of Korea; Switzerland; the United Kingdom and the United States.
