Organisational Culture...
What is it?
How and where do we find it?
How do we develop it?
We hear a lot about Organisational Cultures. But, many are clueless about what it is, how do we find and develop it.
Here are my insights from personal experiences as an employee, a Business Consultant and a Leadership Coach.
Simply put, Organisational Culture is what you
1. See
2. Hear
3. Feel
in your work place.
See...
What do you "SEE" in the place that you are working right now? Do you see your colleagues and/or bosses working hard? Collaborating? Being Fair? How are they treating each other and many more.
Hear...
What do you "HEAR" in the place that you are working right now? Do you hear complaints or inspirations? Positive or negatives words? Back stabbings? Praises or scoldings?
Feel...
What do you "FEEL" in the place that you are working right now? Do you feel uneasy? Threatened? Safe? A place where you can be the best version of yourself or a place where the best is for you to keep your mouth shut and follow instructions.
Culture is a powerful force to weaken even the strongest souls. It is both the cause and effect. People in the organisation create the culture as much as the culture creates the behaviours of its people.
From my experience as a Consultant and Leadership Coach in both SMEs and MNCs, the Leadership and Management of the organisation have the strongest effect on the culture.
If you are a manager or a leader or a boss, ask yourself what kind of culture are you building and what kind of examples are you setting.
Are you building the right environment to have positive SEE, HEAR and FEEL in your place?
Let me know what you think and what you are doing right now. I might be able to give you some of the best practices.
