VISA UPDATE
NONIMMIGRANT VISA UPDATE: Please read the full message below.
On February 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., U.S. Embassy Rangoon will open nonimmigrant visa (NIV) interview appointment slots on our Appointment Scheduling System . We expect these appointments will fill very quickly.
Applicants who qualify for a visa renewal under the interview waiver program (see below) do not need to schedule an interview.
Applicants for all visa categories can apply through this system. There are additional steps that applicants need to take before logging into the appointment system on February 14 – see instructions below.
C1 and D visa applicants should continue to apply through their manning agencies.
If your travel is time sensitive, or you cannot secure one of these appointments, you may consider applying at any U.S. embassy or consulate worldwide.
For students: Please read carefully. All students should seek an appointment on February 14.
If you can secure an appointment before your school’s start date, book it.
If you are a student who has not previously interviewed for a student visa at the U.S. Embassy Rangoon and the appointment slot offered is after the start date of your program, do not book the appointment. Rather, wait until we open expedited student appointments in late April/early May. These appointments will be exclusively for students who have not previously interviewed at Embassy Rangoon.
Students who previously interviewed at Embassy Rangoon will not be offered these expedited appointments and should book any date available in the appointment system on February 14 or consider applying at an alternate embassy or consulate.
Nonimmigrant Visa Interview Waiver Program
Currently, we are accepting Interview Waiver applications for the following applicants. If you qualify, you do not need to make an appointment to apply for a visa.

B1, B2, B1/B2 visa holders whose prior visa, in the same category they are applying for, expired within the last 12 months.
Additional information on the Interview Waiver program, including required documents and how to submit your application can be found here.
Nonimmigrant Visa Scheduling

Before scheduling an appointment, you must complete the Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-160) in its entirety. You may find the DS-160 application here . You must use the same DS-160 application form for the interview.
Visa applicants must provide an unused/new DS-160 barcode. Any used DS-160 barcodes will be rejected.
Visa applicants must use their own email address on the form in case we need to reschedule or have a question. Please do not use a third-party’s contact information.
