𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 & 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗫𝗩 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀-𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 – 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲

We are hounored to have participated in the XV T-RSS hosted by the Italian Navy at the historic Arsenale di Venezia on 6-7 October.

This year's theme “From Regional Waters to Global Influence” perfectly captures what we see daily in subsea cables: a regional incident in a midland sea becomes a global resilience issue.

Two days of high-level dialogue with 77 navies, industry and academia on:
-Protection of critical undersea infrastructure
-Freedom of navigation and security of vital maritime routes
-How cooperation in the Mediterranean, Red Sea and Indo-Pacific generates global effects

As a Mediterranean and worldwide consultancy working from the Mediterranean, we brought our perspective on cable route planning, permitting and landing protection as a dual-use security issue.

Today, the Oceans & Cables Limited team enjoyed a special lunch to bid farewell to Dominika Uszynska, who has been completing her internship with us while pursuing her studies in Hydrographic Engineering at the University of Gdańsk and the Polish Naval Academy of the Heroes of Westerplatte.

Joining Dominika for the occasion were Aldo, Charlene, Alessandro and Gioia, coming together to celebrate her time with our team.

We would like to sincerely thank Dominika for her sterling work, dedication and enthusiasm throughout her internship. It has been a pleasure having her as part of Oceans & Cables and seeing her contribute her growing knowledge of hydrography to our work.

The editorial argues that strategic maritime straits are no longer just shipping lanes. They have become gateways for energy, communications, security, and economic resilience.
One of the publication's central themes is the Strait of Sicily and the Malta Channel, a region where critical infrastructure converges:

🌍 Around 95% of global internet traffic travels through subsea cables.

⚡ Major gas pipelines, electricity interconnectors and submarine communication cables cross the Central Mediterranean, linking Europe, Africa and beyond.

🚢 Vital commercial shipping routes carrying energy and goods also pass through these waters.

The article makes a compelling point: Sicily and Malta are no longer Europe's periphery, they are one of its strategic centres. Protecting the seabed has become just as important as protecting the sea above it.
