🇲🇹 Restawr Arti is delighted to announce the successful conservation and restoration of two significant historical artifacts at the Naxxar Parish Museum.
The 16th-century Icon of St. Athanasius and the 17th-century Painting of St. Peter were officially inaugurated during a ceremony at the Naxxar Parish Church.Thanks to extensive archival research carried out by the members of Ghaqda Kulturali Wirt Naxxari, new insights regarding the saints' provenance, history, and age were uncovered. These fascinating findings have been published in a dedicated article authored by Mr. Victor Zammit.
🎨 The Restoration Process:The meticulous intervention involved removing layers of dirt, grime, oxidized varnish, and old overpaint to unveil the artworks' original colours, gilding, and iconography. Conservators consolidated unstable areas, filled losses with high-quality gypsum, and integrated missing areas using authentic gold leaf and reversible restoration pigments to fully restore their aesthetic and structural integrity.
