The Mosta Rotunda, home to one of the largest unsupported domes in the world, is continuously undergoing careful conservation to preserve its structure, beauty, and historical significance. 🛠️🧱

Every detail matters. Every intervention is carried out with respect for the past and responsibility for the future.

Preserving our dome means preserving a symbol of faith, resilience, and Maltese pride. 🇲🇹

It was a pleasure to meet with Hon. Minister Owen Bonnici, Rev. Archpriest Daniel Cardona, Mayor Mrs Rita Grima, Perit Norbert Gatt and Mr Francis Chetcuti.

A short discussion about the conservation and restoration of the altar and reredos of the Church of St Agatha, Żurrieq, followed.

Il- kwadru li jappartjeni għas- Seklu 18 u li nħadem mill- artist Malti Rokku Buhagiar, kellu b***a ħsarat u problemi li varjaw minn tiċrit, toqob, deformazzjonijiet, lakuni, ġibs u kulur nieqes, titjir ta’ xemgħa, ħmieġ, ġmied, verniċ skur, u rtokki minn restawr passat.

Nirringrazzjaw minn qalbna lill- Arċipriet Fr Chris Ellul u lill- Assoċjazzjoni Patrimonju Tarxien talli fdawlna dal- proġett u lill- Kunsill Lokali ta’ Ħal Tarxien u lil- Lesa għall- fondi.

🇬🇧Yesterday, 9th May 2025, The Parish Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, Tarxien, had the pleasure of inaugurating the conservation and restoration project of the painting dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

The 18th Century painting by the Maltese Artist Rocco Buhagiar had various damages and issues, ranging from tears, holes, deformations, lacunae and losses of gypsum and colour, candle wax drippings, dirt, grime, darkened varnish, and past restoration in paintings and overpainting.

Heartfelt thanks go to Archpriest Fr Chris Ellul and Assoċjazzjoni Patrimonju Tarxien for entrusting us with this project and Tarxien Local Council and Lesa for the funding.

The Parish Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Tarxien, this week, had the pleasure of inaugurating the restoration of the sotto quadro of San Francesco Saverio. We would like to share some moments captured during the works.

The painting suffered from 3 major issues:
- Deformations in the canvas support
- Severe flaking and paint loss, concentrated at the bottom area of the painting
- Discoloured varnish, dirt and grime were dulling the bright colours and certain aesthetical details

The wooden carved frame had several cracks and losses in the wood and gypsum layers. Moreover, parts of the gypsum and gilding were lost. The gilded surface was filthy with dirt and candle soot that accumulated over the years.

This restoration project was commissioned by Parroċċa Marija Annunzjata Ħal Tarxien, and financed by the Tarxien Local Council and LESA.

Ejja ara r-restawr komplut tal-korp tal-Monument.

Bħala parti mill-'Mosta Open Weekend - Vetrina tal-Lokalità’, il-Grupp Organizzattiv Ġimgħa l-Kbira Mosta se jkun qed jesponi għall-pubbliku l-korp tal-Monument li għadu kemm tlesta r-restawr tiegħu mir-Restawratriċi Semira Bugeja M.Sc., B.A. (Hons) (Melit.)

Il-korp tal-Monument se jkun espost fil-kappellun fejn issoltu jintrama s-Sepulkru u se tkun qed tingħata spjegazzjoni lil dawk li jattendu mill-istess Restawratriċi li f'dawn l-aħħar snin kienet responsabbli mir-restawr u proċess ta' konservazzjoni wkoll fuq il-vari tal-Marbut, l-Ecce Homo u l-Vara l-Kbira.

Din hi s-sekwenza tal-vari li ġew restawrati f'dawn l-aħħar sitt snin:

✅Il-Marbut fl-2020
✅L-Ecce Homo fl-2021
✅Id-Duluri, il-Madalena u San Ġwann tal-Vara l-Kbira bejn l-2022 u 2023

✅ Il-Korp tal-Monument fl-2025

Waqt din l-attività, fil-Bażilika se jkunu armati wkoll il-Vari l-oħra fuq il-bankuni tagħhom.
