⚡ Another major milestone achieved for the Second Malta–Sicily Interconnector.

The manufacturing of key high-voltage equipment has now been completed 🇲🇹🇮🇹 — marking significant progress in the delivery of infrastructure that will strengthen Malta’s energy security, grid resilience, and long-term connectivity with the European network.

As Lead Contractor for the supply and installation of these critical systems, AG Group is proud to contribute to a project of strategic national importance.

Testing of key 220kV electrical equipment in Türkiye has been completed successfully. The equipment is now being prepared for transport to Malta and Sicily.

This project will double Malta’s interconnection capacity and further strengthen security of supply.

The arrival and installation of the new 30MVA transformers represents another important step forward in the ex*****on of the Naxxar distribution centre project — supporting the development of stronger, more resilient energy infrastructure for Malta 🇲🇹

Third party contractor finishing the building works Plint - for our fully designedand built 240 MVAr shunt reactor

🚧 New Milestone for Malta’s Second Interconnector (IC2)! ⚡
Works have officially started in Ragusa to install a new hybrid switchgear—another step forward for the IC2 project.

To safely reroute existing IC1 cables, the first interconnector will undergo a planned 3‑day shutdown, coordinated between Interconnect Malta, Enemalta, Terna Energy Solutions, and the Italian Transmission System Operator.

✅ Local generation at Delimara will fully support Malta’s electricity demand throughout this period.
✅ Additional civil works will also prepare a new fire‑protection system for the site.
✅ Rerouting will be carried out jointly with our colleagues at Enemalta and Terna Energy Solutions
