Let’s talk about men’s formal shoes.
Black or Brown?
“Black is black and will always remain the absolute undisputed king of the hill”. No discussion. Wedding, funerals, professional offices… black is the gold standard.
But… you can’t then dress down black. And, you can’t not have them polished every time you wear them.
Brown is for these above reasons changing slightly the gold standard.
But, brown can’t be worn with dark suits unless in an informal casual wear. Browns on dark suits catch the eye but not in a good way.
So what’s the other option?
Burgundy or ox-blood.
Best in-between formal shoe colour IMO. They take a mirror shine. They are not a stark contrast with dark suits whether black, or blue. But they ‘flavour’ and ‘spice-up’ the formality with a regal look, different from the absolute black.
Pondering… my collection is a third for each colour. Only thing that can go really wrong is a misjudgement of the formality of the occasion.
