Blockchain Revolution on Retirement Investments Market

Blockchain technology had been massively implemented within the banking and finance industry. Banks like HSBC, JPMorgan and Bank of America have invested large capitals in the research and development of federal blockchain platforms. HSBC, for example, developed a blockchain solution for ex*****on of forex transactions.

A niche segment of retirement investment will be influenced by the results of blockchain implementation in the banking sector. In 2018, the retirement industry has invested around $552 million in the development of DLT platforms, which accounted for about 37% of the total investment within the industry. The transparency of blockchain recorded transactions will eliminate previous investment models and strategies within the retirement market. As per the data released by IDC, the technology has already shown lots of disruptive potential for the industry.

China is leading the world in number of blockchain projects. Citing a report by Blockdata, China.org.cn states that there are 263 blockchain-related projects in China, accounting for 25 percent of the global total.

Last year, the World Intellectual Property Organisation reported that most blockchain-related patent filings came from China. Data collected by Thomson Reuters from the international patent organisation showed that over half of the 406 patents in 2017 were from China: the country filed 225 Blockchain patents, followed by the U.S. (91), and Australia (13).

With increased countries and large institutions enabling DLT within their regulatory frameworks, crypto regularisation is inevitable. Since regulations wouldn’t restrict the market or slow down industry development, examples show us that weakly-regulated or unregulated markets eventually suffer a collapse that could result in huge losses for both their participants or the general economy.

The Global Crisis of 2008 was a result of the collapse of the subprime mortgage market in the US. Unregulated mortgage-backed assets were sold to unqualified investors, which led to unsustainable lending. The crisis of 2008 was the worst one the global economy had ever experienced since the Great Depression. Between 2011 and 2014 poor regulation of the binary options industry also caused the emergence of many scammy enterprises in the market.

The regulation of crypto industry will ensure a safe and transparent trading environment while protecting investors.
