We are offering another educational resource developed within the Greendale Erasmus+ project! This one is a methodology for the development of during , through .

Aiming to strengthen the role of internships in advancing sustainability in higher education, it provides practical guidance for , particularly those in small and medium-sized enterprises ( ), who supervise student interns and wish to contribute to the green transition in realistic and accessible ways.

Rather than requiring structural changes to business models or advanced sustainability expertise, the GREENDALE approach values incremental actions and reflective practices that can be easily integrated into daily work routines. Even modest engagement with sustainability can significantly enhance students’ ability to address the ecological, economic, and social challenges shaping today’s professional landscape.

This guide is designed primarily for company mentors but can also be used by institutions to prepare and support mentors before and during internships.

🎶 Guess who’s back, back again? …Em…in…em… Brussels 🤓

Just wrapped another most engaging business modelling & planning workshop with brilliant scientists, researchers and innovators! 💪👌

Our repeat collaboration with AcrossLimits (Malta) and COST - European Cooperation in Science and Technology continues to prove that curiosity + rigor = impact 🚀

These COST Innovators teams (see https://www.cost.eu/cost-innovators-grant/) aren’t chasing profit for profit’s sake! What they want is for their discoveries to reach society - sustainably and at scale, and be able to continue bringing on other R&I results.

For this, we mapped market size, identified potential first customers, partners and funders, sketched realistic revenue & profit scenarios. We also unpacked which business and revenue models fit different R&I outputs, how to spot direct and indirect competition, and how to sharpen both value proposition and unique selling proposition so the right customers actually care.

If you are an academic, scientist or innovator wanting your research results to make a real‑world change, you might not want to become an entrepreneur yourself… but you still need to think like one. At least until you find some other entrepreneur or company to foster your “baby”. To convince them to partner up with you and take your “baby” to the target users, you need to know how to estimate demand, test your market assumptions, build partnerships, and design revenue models that fuel more research and innovation.

On healthy (verbal and non-verbal) of talk and practices, or anything else really…

There’s something magical about asking a simple question and watching a room shift. You know the look - the raised eyebrow, the polite smile that twitches, the “oh no, here comes the auditor” expression.

But here’s the thing - healthy questioning is not disruption, it’s progress.

Most people don’t like it when you poke at the status quo or challenge “just the way things are always done”. Yet that’s exactly where clarity lives. Beyond the hype, beyond the inertia, beyond the glossy sustainability reports that sometimes read more like creative writing exercises than genuine commitments.

In a world where has become an Olympic sport, playing the devil’s advocate isn’t just useful, it’s necessary. Interrogators (the healthy kind!) help organisations move from performative to authentic, from slogans to substance.

And let’s be honest - the next generation isn’t buying the fluff. wants purpose. Youngsters want to work with companies that walk the talk - on sustainability, on social impact, on integrity. They’re not impressed by buzzwords, but by action. They are questioning everything, and they are also happy to see how they can contribute and drive .

Last week, as we started scoping for potential company mentors for sustainability focused of students at MCAST (part of the Greendale Erasmus+ project) we had the chance to spark exactly this kind of conversation at a great event organized by the Social Entrepreneurs Association Malta and Eco Market Malta. The photos capture it well: our ever inquisitive Anamaria Magri Pantea asking questions and the audience giving those faces that say “Oh… we’re going there...”

But Zen D'Amato Gautam, all the panel speakers and participants were truly “Sustainably Yours” people – glad to raise and address questions with and , to open up and look at sustainability with both and .

And yes, we absolutely should! Because the future belongs to the companies and organisations brave enough to welcome scrutiny, embrace transparency and evolve with intention.

Definitely looking forward to explore further with all of them the potential to both and together with Greendale interns how to embed sustainability in each and every activity, no matter the economic sector.

This Handbook aims to provide appropriate preparation and support for Higher Education (HE) teachers, regardless of discipline, who wish to become companions and active contributors to the vision of sustainability by slightly transforming their units to incorporate some of the sustainability competences described in the European Sustainability Competence Framework ( ).

The community of green and sustainable entrepreneurs and businesses in Malta is growing nicely, including thanks to the continuous drive, perseverance and support of organisations like Eco Market Malta and APS Bank.

Annual events like GreenBiz Awards celebrating the work and impact or these businesses are crucial not just for acknowledging and rewarding their efforts, but also for spreading the sustainability ethos to others. This was so evident this year, when the number of applicants for the awards increased significantly, as was their quality.

Choosing the winners was actually a very difficult tasks for our managing partner Anamaria Magri Pantea and the other judges! Thus, a big well done to all those shortlisted who you can read more about at https://ecomarketmalta.com/greenbiz-awards/

We've thus been very happy to also introduce to the participants, organizers and supporters the work we are doing part of the Greendale Erasmus+ project to integrate sustainability and green competences in any higher education courses and internships. Hopefully next years many of these green businesses, active in various sectors, will become sustainability mentors to students at MCAST - our Maltese higher education partner in this project.
