Parenting often mirrors the adult psyche, turning the desire to correct a child into a test of self-awareness.

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, articulated this relationship between adult self-awareness and child development by writing: “If there is anything that we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves.”

In Jungian psychology, personal projection plays a significant role in interpersonal dynamics, particularly within parental and caregiving relationships.

By encouraging adults to look inward before attempting to correct a child, Jung highlighted how unexamined adult behaviors and unresolved conflicts influence youth.

This perspective suggests that efforts to modify a child's behavior are often misplaced projections of an adult's own unaddressed shortcomings.

Rather than viewing developmental challenges in children as isolated issues, his philosophy frames them as opportunities for adult self-examination and personal growth.

Ultimately, this observation emphasizes that true guidance begins with self-awareness and personal accountability.

🌈 Everyday ways to connect with your child

Connection isn’t built only in the big moments. It grows in the little things we do every day. 🌱

💙 Listening and being present
🧡 Playing and exploring together
💚 Offering warmth and accepting their feelings
💛 Creating little routines and rituals

Connection is about showing up, being curious about your child’s world, and finding your way back to each other, one small moment at a time ✨️

Children grow through connection🌿

It’s in the everyday moments being listened to, comforted, noticed, understood, and accepted that children begin to develop their sense of safety, confidence and self-worth.

The relationship is not something separate from their development. It is part of their development.

The way we respond when they are struggling, the way we repair after difficult moments, the way we make space for their big feelings and guide them with warmth and boundaries, all of these experiences become part of the child’s growing understanding of themselves and of relationships.

Connection is not an extra.
Connection is where development happens.

💙 Children flourish when they feel safe to be themselves, to explore, imagine, express, question, create and connect in their own unique way.

💚 As adults, we can help create that safety by looking beyond behaviour and noticing the child behind it. By making space for different personalities, different ways of communicating, different strengths and different needs.

💛 Belonging doesn’t mean being the same.
It means feeling accepted as you are.

🧡 Through play, relationships and connection, children can discover that there is space for who they are.
