The US has again faced a huge ransomware attack on its meaningful 4th July holiday weekend. The hackers have asked $70 million in bitcoin to restore the firms’ data. More than 1 million computer systems have been affected by this ransomware. The latter is a malicious software that cybercriminals use to encrypt a user’s data and demand money for the key needed to decipher it. Failure to comply generally results in surcharges and, after a week or so, the data becomes permanently irretrievable.

It is not yet known if those 200 US businesses (and 100 others globally) are going to pay up, but one thing is sure: if the world’s number 1 superpower is vulnerable to such cyberattacks, needless to say how less developed countries could be defenceless in face of a similar turn of events.

Cryptocurrency is fast, easy, unregulated and mostly anonymous, which is why this method of payment is closely connected to the rise in ransomware attacks. There was therefore a dire need for some regulation, hence the relevance of the Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), which are safer and traceable, hence helping preventing crime. As a result, over 80% of the world’s Central Banks are contemplating CBDC.

Thankfully, the Digital Rupee has been announced in the Budget 2021-2022, even if on a pilot basis.

If the little Bahamas could beat international giants in the e-currency battle, Mauritius should confidently jump on the bandwagon as soon as possible too.

We understand that in the wake of the pandemic you cannot afford to invest as much as you used to. As such, we have come up with an exciting plan where you can settle the fees via monthly instalments; i.e., 500 - 1 K USD at the outset, then 500 - 700 USD as monthly instalments on average - depending on the project value.

That way, you (i.e., the client) can test/use the software prior to full payment being effected.
