We are often asked how to manage one's , specially in the case of sole traders in the small island of . Here is our advice:

1) Know your market, your products strengths and benefits.
2) Be clear of what your product does not do.
3) Practice the elevator pitch.
4) Keep track of your discussions, note down opportunities and call back those who are interested by your goods or services.
5) Communicate on social media
6) Keep a good track of your costs and revenue (for Tax purposes)
7) Do not spend money on advertising if you're not ready to lose it.
8) Keep 6 months of treasury
9) Never invest more than 10% of your revenue
10) Insure your activity so that if anything happens, you won't lose your life savings.
11) Never start a project without people's expressed needs for your goods/ services.
12) Make sure to get people's feedback on your goods/services.
13) Think of ways to make your company name (brand) famous.
14) Never take rejection personally.
15) Meet 1 new prospect per day.
16) Be ethical
17) Don't forget the 8hr rule: 8hrs Sleep, 8hrs Work, 8hrs Family time + Sports+ Passion
18) Be excited and share your passion!

Mauritius has a few known stores yet none provide the ability to order and pay online. This is because paypal and international payment gateways wont let Mauritians open a vendor account. Only a consumer account. The alternative is a Mauritian bank's payment gateway that is expensive. Needless to say, no one, not even the big stores, want to spend money on a technology which costs 3 to 5 times less abroad.

The question remains: If is known internationnaly as a financially clean, stable and transparent country then why are international banks blocking on this island?

Most importantly, with the pool of IT available in Mauritius, why has no one built a secured, affordable payment gateway yet?

Some argue that it is a collusion between big businesses and banks to keep the monopoly, others that Mauritian scammers would wreak havoc should online payment gateways be used.

Since large Mauritian groups are so selective in their recruitment process, and academics isn't for everyone, we encourage Mauritian artists and service providers to sell their catalog online. We thus urge the development companies that aren't tied to large groups to work together to provide independents and sole traders the payment (and Tools) they need to expand their activities.

It's true what they say. The first to adopt a new technology are students and prostitutes. Over a year ago I built a private social media page, which can be found on objectif-conseil.net/networking and let alone my enthusiast friends, 90% of requests are from students and es**rt services. How did they find my site is a mystery. But these people are very keen on making the most out of free social networks.

They advertised their business, events, products and services with more determination and commitment than any media outlet would. Of course, once I found out my 'lab' was turning into a nightclub, I enabled member confirmations.

We're now less than a dozen, but at least we're not fake accounts promoting dodgy business.

Have an excellent head hunter.

Be friends with the government!
Have a fantastic and user-friendly accountant that will let them know how and when to post/ close their accounting, pay taxes. Provision. Have a great law firm.

Make the most out of their time at work!
Use a cutting edge cloud solution that will help them manage marketing, crm, erp and bi as easily as booking a plane ticket.

And most importantly:
Have a supportive partner/family.
