In the old days this paddles are used for old dhoni boats since there are no engines at that time they used to sail the ocean an when there is no wind they used these paddles on the boats.
Some comes in yellow,blue,green and red.

Like the old symbols to bland in the art this painting on the paddles has its own meanings too.

The ocean can also be a scary place when it gets ruff these are represented as prayers on a safe journey.

(Fenu pari)

Fenu pari meaning a “ Mermaid “ is a mythical creature half human half fish,
They sing beautiful songs and they capture the seamen.
Some are known to be good and some are known to be bad.
They have a musical instrument they use when they sing which is called a harp.
Since Ryakaa.ink likes to blend the Maldivian tradition the instrument in this artwork that resembles a harp is an old dhoni front nose which is called in dhivehi dhirumba kholu

What’s a malhufathi?

Maldivians were a people who had a close connection with the ocean. It was a source of sustenance for the people as well as the biggest playground for the young. Young Maldivian folks used to surf the waves using wooden planks way before the tourists brought the modern surf board to Maldives. In Dhivehi, the local language, these flat planks are called “malhufathi “

The surf boards are ment to be light some are ment to be heavy depending on the type of waves and type of the style you ride.

In the old days the lightest wood you can find on the islands where the bread fruit tree ( bambukiyo gas ). The wood of this tree also has the ability to flot on water because if it’s porous nature. It was popular amongst the local surfers to carve their boards out of this wood.

Surfing is a famous sport and the Maldives has many world famous surf points.

Such as:
Varunula
Chickens
Cokes
Pasta
Sultan
Honkys
Jails
Beacons

And many more that have yet to be yet discovered.
